Fighting to Forget

FightingtoForget

Every fighter is drawn to the violence, the release that a perfect hit can bring. But very few are drawn to the pain. Rex Carter lives behind a wall of indifference. The demons from his childhood act as an anesthetic, keeping him distant from emotional connections. Only the ache from a knock to the jaw, the sting of a tattoo needle, or the heat from a piercing can jolt him back from the numbness. The fiery pain is all he can feel, and nothing compares to the burn. Or so he thought. Working in a Las Vegas bar isn't Georgia McIntyre's dream. But she hopes it'll be an end to the nightmare. She's watched him, followed him and kept tabs, all in preparation for this moment: to make amends and share the secret she’s been carrying since she was a kid. But she didn't count on the feelings that seeing him again would stir up, the vacant look in his stormy-blue eyes, and his perfect body now mutilated by ink and metal. And she knows why. She's lived his pain every single day, since the day he left. Changed by time, Rex doesn't remember the girl from his past. If only she could do the same. Will she get the absolution she's spent her life seeking? Or will he continue Fighting to Forget?

My Review

5 Heart-Breaking, Fighting Stars!!

Wow I have got to say J.B.Salsbury gets better and better with each new book she releases in this series! This is book 3 in the fighting series and I loved it.This book made me feel so many feelings for these two characters who are struggling, broken and need each other.

"To every child who waited for a savior that never came."

This is the story of Rex and Gia, a story of struggle, love, healing and much more. This book starts off by giving us a glimpse into the past letting us know the connection between Gia and Rex. A heartbreaking scene unfolds and you are gripped into their life.

You go forward in time to the present where you find out that everyone now knows Gia and Mac and she is working in Vegas to be close to Rex.She has been watching him to make sure he is okay. She harbors a lot of guilt and anger about the past and the things that Rex had to go through. She wants to get close to him so she can apologise for not saving him.

Rex performs in a band and is also a fighter, fighting and pain is his release. He needs pain, it makes him feel alive, pain keeps him grounded, its all he knows.Unlike the rest of his friends who are or were players with different women every night he doesn't let anyone in.He is a quiet, focused guy who pretty much keeps to himself. The people around him don't know what he struggles with and how he is plagued with nightmares of a past he cant remember.

The pain is all I have. It’s the only thing that reminds me I can still feel. It may be sick and insane, but it’s real.

When Rex meets Gia/Mac he doesn't recognise her and she doesn't know how to tell him about his past. How will he react? Will he hate her? All these questions and doubts running through her head she doesn't know what to do.She can't seem to stay away from him and he feels the same.Rex has never had a relationship and suddenly he wants one so they start off really slow.

Gia didn’t try to fight my demons, make them bow or wrestle them into submission. She embraced them, accepted them as part of me, loved me despite them and arguably even loved them. And it’s that love and acceptance that quieted them, soothed them, and kept them compliant. After all, what is evil if it has nothing to fight.

What happens when everything comes out into the open?
Lies, betrayal, secrets are all revealed but things don't go as expected.
This book was different and it kept me guessing all the way through at what would happen next.I read late into the night and just didn't want to put it down.

"They can’t hurt you anymore."
"But they do."

In this book you get to also see the old gang Blake,Jonah, Raven and Layla and see how they are getting on which was cool.I am looking forward to the next book in this series!
The dual POV had me torn between what was right and what was wrong. They are both strong characters with demons which haunt them. They need each other. They are each others saviors...
