Synopsis
'milk and honey' is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. 'milk and honey' takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look

My Review

5 stars!!

I feel like the more poetry I read the more I fall in love with words and how they have a way of bringing so much emotion. A few words can have an impact and make you feel so much. If anyone has any recommendations, comment or message me. I'm all for exploring!

'how is it so easy for you
to be kind to people he asked
milk and honey dripped
from my lips as i answered
cause people have not
been kind to me'

I realised that I have a preference to deep dark poetry. Dark thoughts and experiences. I enjoy reading about people's experiences, it's like all this anger, sadness and pain being scratched onto the pages. Its a part of the author and I can't get enough of that.

'neither of us is happy
but neither of us wants t leave
so we keep breaking one another
and calling it love'

Rupi Kaur just has a way with words, I can't even explain it.She inspires me to write.Even though I am no poet but her poetry makes me want to give it a shot. It's a whole different experience when you read something and you can totally relate and you feel like the words are your words that you never knew how to express. This is one I would definitely want on my shelf because I don't this is the last time I will read it.

'I can't tell if my mother is
terrified or in love with my
father it all looks the same'

I pretty much highlighted the whole book. I just couldn't stop myself!
Just beautiful and I can't wait for more by this author.

Review: Making Faces by Amy Harmon

Synopsis
Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.
Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us

My Review
5 BEAUTIFUL, HEART-BREAKING, EMOTIONAL STARS!

"I think people are like that. When you really look at them, you stop seeing the perfect nose or straight teeth. You stop seeing the acne scar or the dimple in the chin. Those things start to blur, and suddenly you see them, the colors, the life inside the shell, and beauty takes on a whole new meaning."

Oh where do I start? This book made my heart-ache so bad and it really makes you view people ourselves differently. Are we so shallow that we love/idolise people based on how they look no matter how ugly they are deep down? Or that we hate and bully because we can't see the beauty deep down? or that we don't even give some people a chance to show their beauty because they don't have a perfect face and body?

This is a inspiring, brilliant book which rendered me speechless. It explores the aspect that a beautiful face doesn't necessarily mean a beautiful person. Are we truly blind can we not see the true beauty within? Do some people feel that an ugly person doesn't feel the same as a beautiful one?

To me everyone is beautiful in some way or another.Never judge someone by the face they wear. The beautiful good looking man can be an abusive evil person, and someone with a disfigured face may have a heart of gold, don't let looks fool you.

"If God makes all faces, did he laugh when he made mine?
Does he make the legs that cannot walk and eyes that cannot see?
Does he curl the hair upon my head til it rebels in wild defiance?
Does he close the ears of a deaf man to make him more reliant?
Is the way I look coincidence or just a twist of fate?
If he made me this way, is it okay, to blame him for the things I hate?
For the flaws that seem to worsen every time I see a mirror.
For the ugliness I see in me, for the loathing and the fear.
Does he sculpt us for his own pleasure, for a reason I can't see?
If God makes all our faces, did he laugh when he made me?

This poem right here really got to me! Its written by one of the main characters called Fern.Fern is not pretty or beautiful like her friend Rita who all the guys seem to chase after, she doesn't have straight hair or teeth, not an amazing body, nope none of that but she has a beautiful heart and soul.Fern has always had a crush on Ambrose but then again who wouldn't he was beautiful but Fern saw more than what met the eye.She fell for his intelligence, his heart, his mind and much more. But Fern never expected Ambrose to ever like her back, why would he?

Ambrose had it all, beauty, popularity, girls and he was the best at what he loved, wrestling. He had is all going in life until he decided to join the army and drag four of his good friends with him. What happens when his life in the army explodes and everything changes.
What happens when Ambrose isn't beautiful anymore?
What happens when he has no friends left?

"Ambrose knew what it felt like to be whole, to be perfect, to be Hercules. How cruel to suddenly fall from such heights. Life had given Ambrose another face and Fern wondered if he would ever be able to accept it."

Bailey is Ferns cousin and best friend they have always stuck by each other and I loved their relationship.Bailey has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He may be bound by his wheelchair but this guy is a true hero. Bailey makes you think a lot about all the things we take for granted, about all the things we complain about. Are we really so blind that we don't see that there are people in worse conditions than you and me?

Imagine knowing that you will die before you get old?
Imagine living day to day life knowing death is around the corner.
Imagine knowing that you cant have a relationship, or a family because you really wont be around for long.

"How do you stand it, Bailey? Looking death in the face for so long?"
Bailey shrugged and glanced at him curiously.
"You act like death is the worst thing."

Bailey has always wanted to be a wrestler, his dad is the coach and even though he cant wrestle he always comes to every practice.Bailey thinks of Ambrose as his hero, what he would do to be in Ambrose's shoes for just one day. To do all the things he can do, even if it is just for one day. After Ambrose's life changes Bailey teaches him a lot, about living in the moment, about never taking things for granted. I felt so sorry for Bailey I really wanted to have the power to give him what he wanted for a day ahh I wanted to curl up into a ball and scream why is life so unfair!?

"I have no pride left, Ambrose!" Bailey said. "No pride. But it was my pride or my life. I had to choose. So do you. You can have your pride and sit here and make cupcakes and get old and fat and nobody will give a damn after awhile. Or you can trade that pride in for a little humility and take your life back."

When Ambrose returns Fern wants to help him, everything has changed yet she still finds him beautiful. Ambrose is filled with guilt, shame, self hatred and he just can't get over is. He can't face everyone, the people who idolised him, the people who wanted him to succeed and those who always thought he would do them proud.

"You are still beautiful," Fern said softly, her face turned to his..
"I think that statement is more a reflection of your beauty than mine," Ambrose said eventually..

Fern is just so damn cute as a kid awww bless her heart she is so damn beautiful with such a pure heart. She has been kicked down by people around her yet she walks through life with a smile.fern and Ambrose form a special relationship she understands him..she used to feel the same thing. She used to feel ugly too.

Three lives all connected, these three main characters take you on an inspirational journey..So grab some tissues and start reading!

"..Maybe then I could get some action.Problem is, how am I going to get a handful of tit if I can't lift my arms?"
Ambrose choked, laughing at Bailey's irreverence, but Bailey continued, unfazed.

Omg I loved this book, it was sweet, funny, so damn emotional and bloody beautiful! At the start I was like hmmm third person POV oh no! I prefer first person POv so the start I felt was a little slow and the flipping from past to present had me a little confused but as soon as I got into it ahh I could not stop!
This is the first book I have read by Amy Harmon and it wont be the last. This was very well written and I am so glad I got an arc.

"Do you think about how I look when you kiss me?"
"Yes." His voice was raspy."I think about your long red hair and your sweet mouth, and the way your little body feels when its pressed up against me, and I just want to put my hands on you.Everywhere.And I forget that I am ugly and alone and confused as hell."

About The Author
Meredith Wild picked up her first romance novel at the tender age of twelve, and shortly after put pen to word processor and made her first attempt at writing a love story inspired by those she so enjoyed reading well past her bedtime.

Her dream of writing took a back seat to college, parenthood and eventually entrepreneurship, which led her into the fast-paced and male-dominated high tech industry.  With enough life experience for a few lifetimes, she now devotes her hours to writing contemporary adult romance, with a hint of kink.
Her debut novel Hardwired tells the story of billionaire bad boy, Blake Landon, and the object of his obsession, strong-willed tech startup CEO, Erica Hathaway. Hardwired will be the first of the Hardwired Series, while writing is underway for the second installment, Hardpressed.

When she isn’t writing or mothering, Meredith can be found sunbathing with an adult beverage.

My Review

4 HOT, MYSTERIOUS, HACKING STARS!!

Okay so when I saw this cover I was like ooh this looks like a dark or BDSM book, the cover is pretty mysterious and doesn't give much away.Anyways its none of those but it is very good. I need more especially with the way things were left at the end ooh can't wait for book 2.
If you are not into the whole rich alpha male characters and similar storylines to 50shades and so on I guess this really isnt the book for you!Every character is different and so I don't think there is any point in comparing them or hating on the book because of it.

So this book is in female POV so yeah all in Erica's POV which is great but still I wish it had some male POV so I could understand Blake more.He is pretty mysterious and confusing at times, it would have been fab to see things his way.Hopefully in the next book his character will be explored more and become more open as I felt he was pretty closed off in this one.

Erica is a just graduated Harvard alumni that is the founder and operator of Clozpin, an online social/fashion site. She launched the site with the help of her friends who all seem to be moving on to other things but this is her dream she wont let it go.
When she is out with her late mother best-friend, someone who has become a mother figure to her she runs smack bang into a hot mysterious stranger..

"Are you all right?"
His voice vibrated through me.My knees weakened a little at the sensation. His arm tightened around my waist in response, bringing our bodies infinitely closer.

When she arrives at arrives at a very important meeting to help get Clozpin up and running with more traffic and audience her nerves are all over the place. And then in walks the mysterious stranger that she ran into. Oh and it gets worse he decides to put her on the spot with question after question and his arrogant behaviour irritates Erica to no end.
Blake Landon always gets what he wants and when he spots Erica Hathaway he is intrigued and captivated by her drive and ambition. She isn't some easy woman though which only makes Blake want her more.I hate it when in book the women pushes the guy away too much its like C'mon you know you will get with him in the end, is this all necessary?

"Baby, this is who I am.I'm hardwired this way.And if I'm trying to take control over the situation, please understand that I have very solid reasoning for it."

I think Erica's best friend Alli kind of pushed her away at times I get it but she should have been more open and it felt like whilst Erica was being pushed away from her friend she was then pushing Blake away and I was like omg stop it!

"Clothes, off," I ordered, directing him with my index finger..."Shouldn't we talk about this?"..."Did I stutter? Clothes. Off." I cocked my head, daring his to argue.

80-90% a lot changes and you are like whaatt? ohhh this is great give me more and you just need to know more by the ending!
When past traumas and present issues clash things could take a turn for the worse.
Blake decides to look into Erica's past and finds some crucial stuff, little does he know that this could put Erica in danger.Trying to protect Erica isn't that easy and then things about Blake's past are revealed. There is a whole lot more than meets the eye..

My Review!
4 Oh-Shit-I-Knew-That-Would-Happen Stars!

Liberty Davis has ran away from the only life she knew she needs to be away from her past, away from her family so she travels to a new place and meets new people.
But will this new place bring a whole new drama, a whole new pain?

She has left her broken family and is trying to pick up all the broken pieces and move forward.Nothing has been the same for her since her brother who she adored, who she thought of as her best friend took his own life.No one knows why he did it but when Liberty found his body Liberty's world crumbles. Her parents begin leaning on her and she has to take care of them..Nobody was dealing with the fact that her brother had left them. She had to get away and find a chance to start over.

When she moves away she never would have thought that she would meet not one but two guys who want her, who care about her! Okay I hate love triangles but this this was cool..there wasn't cheating and stupid stuff about like the woman jumping from one guy to another and back again. I did feel like she led Brett on but he is more of a brother and Shane is just too perfect for her.

Shane is a hot, tattooed, amazing guy who knows the pain of losing a loved one. He used to be a man-whore didn't ever do relationships but he is a changed man now and wants to make it work with Liberty.

Funny, loving, caring, cocky and bloody hot..a bad boy turned good, what more do you want?

Meeting Brett gets Liberty a job and a place to live in..this is when she meets Maddie , Brett's sister loud and talkative with secrets of her own. So what is it that connects them all, a secret that will tear them up..What will happen when secrets are revealed and the past and present collide.

I really enjoyed this book I was hooked from the start and didn't put it down until I finished but all the way through it I was like ohh shit I know whats going to happen..oh god please dont happen ahhhh. At the start I was like Awww Brett you are perfect and think uhmm Shane who? You cant possibly out do Brett I mean C'mon!..Next thing I know I love Shane and Brett meh he has been pushed aside haha He gets on my nerves later on in the book, Brett is a lovely guy and everything but just not the guy for Liberty.

This was a quick, fast paced, heart-breaking story with a twist that can ruin it all..
