Review: The Man I Love (The Fish Tales #1) by Suanne Laqueur

22515690

Synopsis
Erik "Fish" Fiskare loves the theatre, but he’s more intrigued by the wizardry behind the red curtain than the spectacle center stage. That is, until Daisy Bianco steps into the spotlight. The moment Erik lays eyes on this ballerina, his atoms rearrange and the young stagehand will never be the same.

For two years, the romance thrives within a tight-knit circle of artists and friends. Then, a newcomer arrives—James, a brilliant but erratic dancer with a misguided infatuation and a burning desire to belong. Rejection sets James on a course for destruction and when the smoke clears, Erik’s world is torn apart. He soon discovers that in the face of heartache, grief and betrayal, love is not always enough to make you stay. And sometimes, it’s the only thing that can bring you back.

Spanning fifteen years and following a man's thrilling emotional journey back to the truth of himself, this award-winning novel has gripped readers and placed Laqueur as one of the most exciting debut authors of 2015. The Man I Love is an epic tale of love and forgiveness that will linger long after the last page is turned.

My Review
4.5 Beautiful, Enigmatic Stars!!

I don't even know where to begin with this review and explain to you all about what I felt whilst reading it.I tell you now this book really makes you FEEL everything! So much happens and all the up and downs make you feel like you are interlinked with all these characters. This story was much more that just a normal story. This was real, powerful and consuming.

'In the dark. What are you like in the dark?'

When I got asked to review this arc I had no clue what it was about and I read the title and was like Fish Tales? Tell me it's not about a guy who turns into a fish or something bizarre like that haha. Luckily I checked goodreads and well that's when I discovered that this book has amazing reviews,so I thought why not lets give this a shot. i didn't actually read the blurb or reviews it was more on the ratings and I prefer not going in with too much information since I know it can put me off at times, causing me to miss out on some incredible books.

'This was the real story. This was how it started. Not with locked eyes during romance and sex, but with blood.'

I don't feel like I need to summarize the book since the synopsis gives you most of that anyways but what it misses out is what a painful, brutal journey you experience whilst reading this book. I recommend you go in blind and experience everything. One of the things I absolutely loved was the writing. This book is written BEAUTIFULLY!

'Her gravity was so strong, his attraction to her so complex and layered, he felt he was drifting in another dimension.'

The story starts so lovely, it has a slow and beautiful sensation of falling in love, feeling on top of the world.Light and airy, like you could do anything. It's brutal how this book lulls you in to a sweet innocent atmosphere away from anything painful and then allows it all to crash down on you when you least expect it.I remember getting half way and to that one massively painful part and being so angry. SO angry. I couldn't believe the turn things had taken and how had it got there. I was Eric, I understood what he did and it may have been wrong but it was real and I felt like in that position I would have done the same. My heart broke for him and everything else fell short. Nothing else mattered, I rooted for him wanting him to be successful finding happiness again yet I felt his ache, even in all the happy places there was this raw ache that wouldn't allow him to be fully happy.

'I could never hate you.But now I can never love you.The two nevers cancelled each other out.Leaving nothing.'

But in the end after all the pain, anger, misery and failure, every single emotion he went through things had to be forgiven. Everything he went through, which I went through with him, there came a point where it all made sense where there was this calmness and dulling of the pain. So in some ways time does heal. Things had to get right again and it would only become like that when every missing part of Eric was put back together in a sense. I never thought I would feel like that by the end but I did and that's a first which makes this author even more awesome.

'They gathered together in the evenings, yet each struggled alone.'

I can't wait to read the rest in this series and I'm hoping they are all as amazing as this one. I need to know what happens with all the other characters and if things would go back to normal, what is normal? I have a lot of unanswered questions I hope they will get answered in the next books. Btw there are so many sections and quotes I highlighted. SO MUCH!

Review/Giveaway: Sociopath By Lime Craven

Synopsis
The name's Aeron Lore. And you are...? Such a pleasure to meet you, sweetheart. Is that a southern accent? Gorgeous.

You fucking bitch.

Why so surprised? I control a billion dollar fortune. I control the news. Give me five minutes and I'll control you, too. If you could read my mind, you'd probably call me perverted. Unnatural. Manipulative. But I've learned to blend in, to be funny and charming. A predator in a designer suit.

I have no conscience. No shame in taking the things I want. And what I wanted was for Leontine Reeves to sell me her boutique tech firm so I could exploit the fuck out of it. Maybe exploit the fuck out of her, too, because desire haunts me in shades of scarlet, and I desire Leo most of all.

I never meant for this to be a love story. I fought it kicking and screaming, the same way Leo fought me. Now we're bleeding into each other, making a mess. A chaos. There's no control here. And what do monsters like me do when control leaves the building?

We attack.

A Dark Romance
WARNING: 18+. Contains scenes that some may find disturbing.

My Review

4 Mindfuck Stars!

This book is brilliant! Had me at the synopsis I mean look at it doesn't it sound like a awesome book? Doesn't it intrigue you? Well it totally made me want to get my hands on it since I love a dark twisted read.Everyone needs a good mindfuck once in a while ;)

Trust (Noun):the warm, fuzzy realisation that you have way too much dirt on someone for them to fuck you over.

This is Lime Craven's debut novel and I'm totally impressed.Bravo Lime Craven you have another fan right here.I can't wait to see what other books will be written by this author and read them all.I loved the way this book was written throughout this book you are in the sociopath Aeron's head and he is speaking directly to you.Let me start by saying I am intrigued by all things psychopath, sociopath, serial killers and so on. I've always wanted to study them and find out why they do the things they do, (Dexter is also one of my top fav shows) so this was definitely right up my street!

'Boys get picked on for owning dolls, but nobody gives a shit if a grown man buys himself a pretty puppet. And this, my friends, is the world we have built for ourselves.'

I read a few reviews where people feel like they couldn't connect with Aeron and it was too much being in his head and so on. That really wasn't the case for me I enjoyed it and a lot of things he said I found quite amusing. He kept me interested, I didn't want to stop reading, I had to continue.I had to know what would happen next, where would the story go? What kind of secrets would be unfolded? This wasn't a fast-paced book like I expected it to be yet the way it was written made you want to read on.It was like if you stopped now you would always be left wondering what would have happened.

'A rich man desires little but the things he cannot buy'

This is a dark read not the darkest I've read but some people wouldn't be able to handle some of the scenes which were disturbing. There is no rape or beating but the main character have dark kinky and twisted taste. Leontine Reeves is another character with many layers, whilst we are trying to figure out Aeron we forget about Leontine at times which is a mistake. Both these characters harbor secrets which can destroy the other but in the end what will happen?

..I feel a lot of things; just not for other people. I'm self-serving.

Can a man without a conscience, who only thinks about how things would affect him..Can he fall in love? Are sociopaths able to love or does it become more of an obsession? A dark need to obtain?

'Love is just a scar you can't see'

I think it would have been a full 5 stars if the ending wasn't as rushed I felt like I got thrown a load of information at the end and I wanted more. Some parts I felt like should have been more detailed stuff about Aeron's mother and father. And I wanted to know more about how Aeron was with Ash. I just wanted more, I didn't want it to end. We got a glimpse into Leontine's mind in the end but I want to know more her end was rather vague. The ending just felt abrupt but other than that fantastic debut!

About the author

I like dysfunction. Broken people who can't fix each other, but fit together because they're missing the same pieces. One of my favourite songs declares, "take the sinner down to feed desire," and that's my MO. I write dirty psychological thrillers with strong elements of dark romance.

I love antiheroes. Female characters who don't just accept their faults, but downright exploit them. No nice boys. No shame. Mindfuckery for all.

Blurb

We all have a façade, a concealed mask we wear to portray ourselves to the world.

Her untarnished world is shaken when Luca crosses her path.

Luca’s mask is tightly controlled. Distrust, rivalry, and violence rule his life.

When confronted with insecurities, when the one you love wears his mask perfectly, when your life unravels and you don’t know why, do you keep trusting the person you love?

Everyone has a façade. Everyone has an ulterior motive.

Excerpt

His gaze is piercing through me. He tilts his head and arcs one brow in silent question, Need any help?
I almost imperceptibly nod my head.
Mystery man speaks to his company, who’s leaning with his back against the bar. The other guy whips his head around to look at me and is obviously not agreeing with his friend’s intention to intervene. He disregards his friend’s comment and comes over to Nick and me. He walks right up to us to place a secure arm around my waist, tucking me gently into his side and turning slightly, so I’m engulfed in his one arm embrace. His breath strokes over my temple while he speaks. “I’m taking her for a dance.” His deep, throaty voice which exudes sensuality fits him perfectly in his tailored suit. The guy glowers at Nick, daring Nick to defy him. His intimidating stance has Nick backing off instantly, and he leads us both away with his arm firmly holding my middle.
I don’t even look back at Nick. My eyes are glued to this man. My mouth quirks up in a smile as he shows me an enthralling sidelong grin.

When I’m about to ask his name, he halts. “You’re welcome,” he whispers the words against my ear. And again, he strolls away.

 My Review
3.5- 4 Deceptive Stars!

For Fallon is book 1 in the Chicago Syndicate series and Soraya Naomi's debut novel. After reading and loving Soraya's reviews I was surprised and excited when she announced that she would be releasing a book.I loved the way she wrote her reviews and was anxious to read what she would write.I love mafia romances and have read a lot and I'm always looking for something new and I really enjoy great twists in the story and a book that makes me wasn't to keep reading and never stop. If you enjoy love stories that arent all lovey dovey, which have a mix of deception, lies, murder, twists and much more this is a book for you.

“Love must not suffocate, but breathe on its own.”

Fallon lives with her best friend and works for a charity as a copyeditor.Oh and the best part..She loves to read and tea! Helloo my fav things book and tea!! Anyways back to the story..Fallon and Luca meet at a club.Fallon can't take her eyes off of him and it seems like it's the same for Luca.Or is it?

After their first meeting they seem to keep bumping into each other and so begins the start of their steady relationship. Its a slow buildup and you get to know the characters and how the relationship develops. It was a little slow for me and took me a while to read it.The second half of the book picks up and I found it a lot better and I kept turning pages and couldn't stop reading until I hit the end. Thanks Soraya! That cliffhanger though :O I did not expect that ending and now I want more!

I love dual POVs when they are done right and this was so done right! I liked that we had both the POVs as it helped explain alot of things. Second half or parts of the second half Fallon annoyed me. I know that in that situation you aren't thinking rationally and you do stupid stuff and that she didn't know what was going on in Luca's head so she couldn't know what I knew but omg she should have known. This is not making sense or maybe it is?

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and any other books Soraya writes ;)

Although she reads many genres, she favors intense, dark, seductive, and provocative novels where the male character loves fiercely without remorse or boundaries.

She has a passionate obsession for the written word and indulges in chocolate pastries much too often.

There are books full of great writing that don't have very good stories. Read sometimes for the story... don't be like the book-snobs who won't do that.
Read sometimes for the words--the language. Don't be like the play-it-safers who won't do that. But when you find a book that has both a good story and good words, treasure that book.

My Review
4.5 Remy Loving Stars!!

Okay so I really enjoyed book 1 and then I didn't think book 2 lived up to my expectations (maybe they were a little too high) but hey! So I was a bit skeptical starting this one. I kept thinking this series definitely needs a book that is in Remy's POV because well..he is the reason I read the books :DD

Remy being an intriguing character and then having episodes of being manic and depressed I really wanted to know how it was from his point. We find out that he has difficulty expressing his feelings so this book gave us his feelings! Everything he couldn't say to Brooke well we see it all!

"I want to play you a thousand different songs so you get a clue of what...I feel inside me."

This book goes back and forth from past to present it's basically both books repeated with Remy's pov and added stuff.I was intrigued to read about the parts where he was away from Brooke but the parts we have already read in Brooke's POV a little voice in my head was out of control screaming stuff like oh oh this happens next, oh I know what will happen now.Stupid annoying little voice!!

Some of the things Remy was feeling and thinking broke my heart aww bless him! I just wanted to reach into the book and give him a big hug. Remy is a fighter, a survivor, a protector and much more. His life hasn't exactly been easy for him with his family abandoning him and his bipolar condition and his career but meeting Brooke's everything in its place. She makes him feel alive and there was no way he was letting her get away. Remy hasn't been loved before not all of him, not every bad part of him aswell as the good but Brooke sees past his imperfectness and loves him, all of him.

“I imagine stripping her, f**king her, then kissing and petting her all night until the sun appears. And then I imagine the look on her face when I tell her I’m bipolar”

I wanted to know more about his past and more about his family and I wanted it to carry on a little longer with more stuff about what was happening in the present time.Oh a little prologue would have been great because I really wanted to see a little baby Iris in the future ;)

Review: Delayed Penalty By Shey Stahl

Synopsis
A minor penalty that is not called until the offending team gains control of the puck. As long as the non-offending team maintains possession, the referee allows play to continue and signals a delayed penalty by raising his arm.

I’m Evan Mason, an NHL hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks. I spend my nights roughing up two hundred pound defensemen and, at times, spend more time in the penalty box than I do on the ice.

That’s my job.

One night changed everything I thought I once knew about my life on, and off, the ice.

A girl.

A brutally beaten girl left to die in an alley.
I don’t know why or how but something made me stay that night after taking her to the hospital. I didn’t know her, nor did I have an obligation to stay but something inside of me rooted me there telling me I should stay. Saving a life is worth something. At least I thought so. And I wouldn’t have been me if I just simply left her there.

Any man who put his heart and soul into a game of hockey couldn’t just walk away when someone needed them. She had no one else right now. The same guy who saw determination where there was desire, now saw hope where there was once despair.

I couldn’t leave. That wouldn’t be me. No, not a man that put all he had into something some called just a game. I couldn’t walk away from her holding onto life, weak and powerless to something she had no control over.

So I stayed. In a room full of family members praying for their loved ones to pull through, I prayed for a girl I didn’t know and had never met before, to have a beating heart. While others’ sorrows turned to grieving pain, I sat waiting on the words of the unknown.

No bond is stronger than the ones you’ll bleed for

My Review

4 Awesome Intriguing Hockey Stars!

“Our presence in the world was actually very small. It was our presence in the lives of others that made the world what it was. Every word we said, every gesture we made, every detail connected you to that presence you made whether you knew it or not.”

Evan "Mase" Mason is an NHL hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks, when he finds a girl on Christmas Eve lying on the snow raped and nearly beaten to death he cant leave her there and has to help. After rescuing her he just cant leave her at the hospital after finding out that she has no-one to be there for her.He is drawn back to her and ends up falling in love with her..

“No bond is greater than the ones you'll bleed for.”

Ami is 18 years old and came to Chicago to start over to create a new life and become a ballerina. She is running from her past after facing so much loss she moves to Chicago only to be brutally attacked. The only light in all the darkness is Evan. Her saviour who helps her overcome the loss in her life. They help each other to become better and stronger people.

“You can't see something shining if you're eyes are closed.”

Wow!I really enjoyed this book and let me tell you something..before I read this book I knew nothing about hockey.I liked finding more about the sport and actually enjoyed reading about it,much to my surprise.I actually thought I wouldn't enjoy it due to the whole hockey part of it and would get bored and lose interest ahh how wrong I was! The story-line was awesome and there wasn't a dull moment to it.This book is in both Ami's and Evan's POV which made it even better!

Oh my god I was going to write I loved Leo he should sooo have his own book and then I check next book and what dya know.. Book 2 is Leo's woop woop!

Review: Tangled (Tangled #1) By Emma Chase Review

Synopsis
Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without.

My Review

That.Was.Awesome!!

5 bloody hilarious stars!!

This book was just perfect, pure brilliance.I was hooked on it right from the start and really didn't want it to ever end.It is in a male POV..let me tell you that there are very few romance books that i enjoyed through a male POV but this book blew my mind you just cant hate it!

"Do you see that unshowered, unshaven heap on the couch? The guy in the dirty gray T-shirt and ripped sweatpants?

That’s me, Drew Evans.

I’m not usually like this. I mean, that really isn’t me."

Oh drew! i loved being in his head, so many things in this book made me laugh out loud and I'm sure my family thought i had lost the plot!
Drew is an arsehole really an arrogant little shit that thinks he is gods gift to women..

"Turns out I didn't get blue balls after all. I met up with the coffee house girl that night. She’s a yoga instructor.

Nice.

What? Come on, don’t be like that. I want Kate, no question. But don’t expect me to act like a monk until it happens. The thing women don’t understand is that a guy can want one woman and still fuck another one. Hell, a guy could love a woman and still fuck ten others. It’s just the way it is."

Yes yes he is a pig but I hate him? Nahh you just cant hate Drew!
The books starts off and you see that Drew is a mess a un-shaven miserable man locked in his dirty apartment and as he puts it. its because he has the flu..
Then you are taken back a few months to find out what really happens and you find how its all linked to a women..

A few days after that at a staff meeting, I “accidentally” spill a glass of water on some information Kate has compiled for my father. Something that probably took her five or so hours to put together.

“Oops. Sorry,” I say, letting the smirk on my face tell her how very unsorry I am.

“It’s fine, Mr. Evans,” she assures my father as she wipes up the mess. “I have another copy in my office.”

How very Boy-Scoutish of her, don’t you think?
Later—about halfway through the same meeting—do you know what she does?
She fucking kicks me! In the shin, under the table.

Kate is just like Drew in a way, strong, witty, passionate and beautiful. She is just the women he needs to make him a better person and challenge him.I loved all the characters even Alexandra the bitch!
Mackenzie is adorable :D

“For God's sake, don't let her watch Cinderella. What kind of example is that? A mindless twit who can't even remember where she left her damn shoe, so she has to wait for some douchebag in tights to bring it to her? Give me a frigging break!”

Can not wait for the next book :D
