Review: Taut: The Ford Book (Rook and Ronin Spinoff) by J.A. Huss

Synopsis
Ford Aston is known for many things. Being an emotionless, messed up bastard, a freakishly smart social outcast, and a cold, domineering master who keeps "pets" instead of girlfriends.

And after Rook broke his heart, he plans to keep it that way.

Ashleigh is known for nothing, and that's exactly what she's got going for her. She's broke, stranded in the mountains with a three month old baby, and Ford Aston is screwing with her head.

Big. Time.

And she plans to mess with his right back.

It's a coy game at first, filled with flirting, and innuendo--but Ford soon realizes something is not quite right with Ashleigh. In fact, something is seriously, seriously wrong and the closer they get to their final destination, the closer Ford gets to the truth.

One night of devastation, self-loathing, and emptiness turns into the best thing that ever happened to Ford Aston. But one day of in-your-face reality threatens Ashleigh's whole existence.

Ford first appears in Rook and Ronin #2, Manic. He has a bigger role in Panic, R&R #3, and then he has a novella, called SLACK. This TAUT book is only FORD. It's not really part of the R&R series, as that plot has all been sidelined for this one romance book.

5 Taut Stars!!
Why haven't I read any book by this author before? Where have I been?!
I have seen a lot of people go on about the series by this author but the synopsis of this one caught my eyes and I was like that's it I'm putting everything down and getting this book. And then I won a giveaway which allowed to to choose any ebook and of course I chose this one because this looked like a perfect book for me and obviously looking at what I rated it,you can tell that it sooo was!

I haven't read the 'Rook and Ronin' Series and maybe I really should? I think I would recommend reading the series first because there were a few moments of confusion for me when I didn't really know the background stuff and was curious.I'm also going to go through and add every J.A.Huss book to my TBR shelf. Thanks J.A.Huss, like I needed more on that list ;)

'I will never- ever-care for another woman for as long as I live.

I will never allow myself to be weak like this again.'

It all starts when we see Ford running away from something he needed to accept and try move on from.He thinks he needs to be alone but its the opposite, he needs someone to love.Someone who will love him with everything in her.He is fed up of being lonely, or left behind.Ford has never been normal so he wears smart clothes and tries to blend in. Being stuck in a snow storm and his car breaking down and being faced with people from his past, well things aren't looking good. That is until he decides to do something nice and let a woman with a baby sleep in the same room as him.

They are both lost and struggling to carry on in a way and when they find each other at just the right time. They need someone to hold on to and that becomes each other. There were so many parts of this book i really wasn't expecting and I didn't want it to end, I kept checking the percentage and then having a mini panic attack because I was somehow reading this fast, or it was just the fact that I could not stop reading.

'You can be appreciated for who you are, even if your only talent is a little bit strange and that seems to have no value.Because everyone is valuable.'

^Love this. This is another one going into my favourites list and another for my I-Need-This-In-Paperback shelf.Love the cover and Ford, my new book boyfriend, Where can I find him? I liked him with all his quirks and everything! My heart broke for Ashleigh. Loved Kate and Ford moments, I need more.I wanted the ending to be extended! Can't wait to read more from this author..but right now I have a book hangover :(

I'm a retired Marine, an MMA fighter, and when I was younger something terrible happened to me. Life is hard and I'm so tired of pretending its not. 4.5 Beautiful Stars!!

This is a free read, yes FREE!! After reading the synopsis I quickly went to one-click only to have amazon tell me er..you already have it. Don't be clicking a million times on the same book, bitch. So I went through my kindle app thinking no amazon you lie! I would have read it by now.But then to my utter shock at the bottom, there it was. How dare I neglect this book? So I started it and wow what a journey it was.I loved it, I knew I was going to love it just by looking at the synopsis ;)

'Home.

I don't have one of those anymore.'

Ryan is struggling with life.He has demons and they are eating away at him.He tries getting rid of they by getting drunk but even that doesn't help. His past won't let him live and so the time comes when he decides to end it all.

'A broken heart can kill.Maybe that will be the way I go.'

Liliana has struggled through life after her dad threw her aside when he found out she was pregnant. Now she is 21yrs old and has a 7yr old autistic son. She is lost, lonely and then she meets Ryan. That one night will change everything, they just don't know it yet.

'She's taking the broken pieces and gluing them all together.I'm not perfect, there are still defects, but I'm standing and that's all that matters.'

I loved it, loved how it was different and how it made me feel.I wanted to hold Ryan, squeeze him tight and make all his demons go away.Liliana was a likeable character, strong beautiful and much more. How are there not more reviews for this book? Beautiful, heartbreaking book that you will not want to stop reading. It's one of those books where you start reading and next think you know you are at 98% then you start panicking because you don't want it to end!

This is a standalone with dual point of views so you get an insight to both main characters. Can't wait to read Alex's book next!!

5 I-Love-Pick Stars!

So I started this book without having read the previous books in this series because after reading the synopsis and about Pick I just had to jump in. Be my hero is book 3 in Forbidden Men series by Linda Kage. I loved this book but more that the book I bloody loved Patrick ‘Pick’ Ryan who is now my new book boyfriend. Oh my! He is just perfect, everything he does for others even with the crappy childhood he had the hope for a better future and with that dream him into an amazing man. He is just so protective and loving..the list of his good qualities is endless. SO..big question is Linda Kage..where do I find Pick? Please tell me..I swear I will take good care of him ;)

Pick is an orphan being moved from foster house to foster house, nothing is going right for him and he has had to witness some heartbreaking things and its at that point where if things carry on as they are he will start to harden himself try build up walls and stop letting people in and ultimately lose all hope. He is shown a glimpse into a future he can have, it shows all his dreams coming true if he carries that hope.He wants everything that is shown to him with such longing he can't get it out of his head and he works towards being a better person so when he meets his woman Tinker Bell as he calls her, in the future he can be worthy of her.

..I gave you a glimpse."
"You gave me a what? What the hell is a glimpse? What does it mean?"
"Mean?” She cocked her head as if confused by the question. "Maybe nothing. Maybe everything. It shows you what your life would look like if you lived it to your heart’s content."

When I read the start I was a bit like...uhmm what the hell the whole story is spoiled now because we already know what will happen but Oh was I wrong! It wasn't anything like I thought it would be and thoroughly enjoyed it.

"How the hell did you know this was our song?"
"Our song?"
"Hell, yes, our song. We're going to dance together to this at our wedding reception."

Eva Mercer has been suffering for a long time and no matter how perfect her life may look on the outside its anything but. She is still a child yet her innocence has been lost. She needs a hero..someone to take her away and save her.

10 years pass and we visit Pick and Eva's life in the present.Eva is 19yrs old and pregnant living with her cousin.Pick hasn't found his Tinker Bell and is thinking that it may all have been a dream, a lie. But then he meets Eva wearing a Tinker Bell nightshirt and things get crazy! Pick's life already has a lot of chaos and then the fact that Eva is pregnant ahhh! You have got to read it but in the end it all works out. After a lot of struggle there is so much peace.

What a beautiful journey filled with heartbreak, giggles, babies and so much love. Swoon worthy Pick.. and well..do you really need more? Yeah didn't think so ;)
Highly recommended and I don't know what I am going to do.Read the series in reverse? I haven't decided yet but I'd recommend reading in order to others lol
Oh and I can't wait for Quinn's book!

My Review

4 Stars!

'Desire fired in his chest, stroking his passion and squelching any well-laid plan to stay away from her.'

Okay so I wanted a book where the woman has a kid or is pregnant or something..Now you are probably like whaaaat? Yeah I don't even know why but that's the book i was looking for and well I could have just asked right? on facebook or here or anywhere but at the time I was too lazy to even do that pft! So in the end I found this book on Net Galley when I was randomly browsing. Looking on Goodreads and finding out that not many people have reviewed it at the moment which made me nervous..is it just me that that happens to? I need to see that a lot of people have reviewed the book I want to read < this somehow calms me and makes me think ahh it can't be that crap if there are so many reviews (even if they are a mixture of good and bad)

I really enjoyed this book, I didn't really think it would be all that, just a short normal okay-ish book so i was surprised when I finished it in one go and wanted more.I thought it would be longer as I prefer longer books to short ones but oh well it was still an enjoyable read.
So yeah let me get to the story since I seem to be rambling!

Carter Anderson is sexy billionaire CEO with a reputation of being a player. He has been betrayed in the past which leaves a bitter taste in his mouth, he can't seem to get passed it.So at his brothers funeral when he meets Gwen Radley he automatically thinks she doing it all for money. Gwen claims to be pregnant with Carter's brother’s baby.

'She was tempting, no doubt, but below that beguiling exterior laid the heart of a woman like any other. One who couldn't be trusted because she would indisputably, exploit you and rip out your heart.'

Gwen Radley has never had much as she is an orphan, she always longer for family but she didn't expect it to be like this. She goes to Ben's funeral to put a picture in his casket a little piece of the baby he will never get to know. Being discreet doesn't work out and things get messy when Carter steps in claiming that she obviously wants money. That this is all a lie. She never knew a one night stand would bring her to this.

Ahh these two were constantly going at each other and at times I just wanted to smack Carter for being a mean little shit.I understood how what he went through in the past messed him up but he really needed to let it go and see past his own issues. I adored him at times and other times not so much but hey it happens.Loved the happy ending, even though this book was predictable its still a great quick read.

Gwen is a strong character, after all she went through she had to be.Things keep going wrong for her yet she never quits, she carries on with her head held high and never gives up.They are both stubborn at times which at times made things worse.
I loved the work Gwen did with Carter's dad and how she helped bring the family together and make it stronger.

My Review
4 Sweet Adorable, Cute, Happily Ever After Stars!!

Okay before I started reading this book I was thinking hmm is this going to be any good? ohh what if I don't like it!? But you know what it took me by surprise and I ended up really enjoying it.After reading some sad heart-breaking books this is just what I needed to cheer me up!

Indelible is a quick, light, fun, fast-paced read which has you intrigued right from the start as it jumps right to the point. Not saying that the main characters don't have problems and the issues are messed up but its not that bad :D

One night changes Sam's life when a one night stand leads to much more.Sam is a young single mum and is juggling college work with raising a child. Life isn't easy and with no help from the biological father who wants nothing to do with his child, her life is pretty much based around college and her kid, Carrie.

Judd is a baseball player with an alcoholic father who is miserable since his wife died. Judd takes care of him and makes sure things are sorted but for how long can he juggle his father, college work and baseball? He is known as a player, Judd doesn't do relationships and dates.

So what happens when one night he meets Sam at a bar? Judd cant seem to get her out of his head and the mystery around where she lives and so on has Judd intrigued and captured by her.. Sam has Carrie to consider and doesn't know what to say when Judd asks her out..

Things change fast for Judd and Sam but will Judd still stick around when he finds out that Sam has a child?

At the start I thought ahh Judd is like any other player meh not interested but but he isn't I loved how caring he was and thoughtful.
There were just so many sweet moments that made me fall for him!

Sam is a strong independent woman and has been juggling everything alone. I felt every frustration she felt, sometimes kids can be such a pain..

“No one ever plans on hurting someone else, it just happens.”

Tuck..I don't know what to think of him, I just wanted to punch him know what was going on in his head.He seemed like such a nice guy and then boom! everything changes and I'm like wtfff! whhyyy?

Overall I really enjoyed this book..a story of struggle, love, family and finding forever!
