Review: Here Be Sexist Vampires (Deep In Your Veins, #1) by Suzanne Wright

Synopsis
Sam Parker is a vampire with a gift so strong and substantial that she is invited to partake in a test for a place in the Grand High Master Vampire’s private army. She finds that not only has the army never included a woman, but it has never included a Sventé vampire; a breed that is regarded by the super strong Pagori breed and the hypnotically beautiful Keja breed to be too tame and human-like. Most refuse to take her seriously, especially a Pagori commander named Jared who she craves in spite of herself.

The Grand High Master, however, sees her potential and offers her the position of Jared’s co-commander to help train the newest squad in time for the impending attack on his home. Sam has to demonstrate to Jared and the squad of chauvinists why it is incredibly foolish to underestimate a wilful, temperamental, borderline-homicidal Sventé female.

Warning: This novel contains an iron-willed female vampire with an energy whip, a sexist male vampire who is determined to have her, explicit vampy sex, and a romance story with real bite.

My Review

4 Bite Me Stars!

Why haven't I heart of this series before? And this author?
This is my first book by Suzanne Wright and I really enjoyed more. Will definitely be reading more by her. It's been a while since I read any paranormal book and especially Vampire ones and I really needed a change and this one was just sitting in my kindle app, begging me to start it. I'm soo glad I did.

HBSV drew me in straight away and I was never bored. It's one of them books which makes you want to carry on, you need to know what will happen next. It's not just a paranormal romance its so much more.It has romance, humour, action and more. I loved the characters and can't wait to get to know them all better. Only weird thing I felt was the guys giggling LOL i just kept imagining them being all girly.

“So you’re prejudiced against women, young vampires, and against another breed of vampire. I bet you’re a delight to have around.”

Jared oh Jared! Sexist pig who made me laugh and want to smack him at times.Jared and Sam were awesome together, I could not get enough of their little arguments and banter.I'm glad it was written in dual pov I liked knowing both characters view and feelings about things, it helped a lot in matters. Jared and Sam felt the attraction as soon as they met yet they were both being stubborn. They are perfect for each other and even though they annoy each other at times, when anything bad happens they seek each others company or solace.

Jared’s lips were suddenly at my ear. “The only vampire who’ll be manhandling you tonight is me.”

“If I let you.”

I want more! I will be reading the next book as soon as I am done with a few arcs!

Review: Tall, Dark and Lonely (Pyte/Sentinel #1) By R.L. Mathewson

Synopsis
Things are finally looking up for Madison. After years of scraping just to get by she lands her dream job and finally has a decent down payment for a house so she can move her brother and sister into a real home. It's too bad nothing ever goes the way it's supposed to. When the mother that abandoned them years ago suddenly shows up and moves them to New Hampshire Madison has no choice but to go or lose her brother and sister. Shoving her dreams aside yet again, Madison tries to make things work, it's really cold, her fifteen year old sister acts like a hooker in training, men act funny around her, her boss is a real jerk, she feels like an outsider, her best friend turns out to be a sixteen year old punk, and the incredibly handsome guy renting the room adjoining hers not only hogs the bathroom, taking three showers a day and leaving her with cold water, but he also has a secret. A secret that she becomes a bit obsessed with and can't let go no matter how many times she's warned off.

Detective Ephraim Williams learned long ago not to show any emotion or allow himself to get attached to humans. What was the point? They came and went and he remained. This time wouldn't be any different or so he thought. When his landlady told him her grandchildren were moving in he didn't expect much, well other than to be left alone. What he didn't expect was to have to fight bloodlust every time he so much as caught a whiff of his delectable neighbor's scent or her bombarding him with questions every time she cornered him. If that's not bad enough a Master from his past has found him once again and is demanding his blood and is willing to do anything to get it, even using the exasperating neighbor that makes him feel more than pain for the first time in centuries.

My Review
 4 Bloody Stars!
After reading the synopsis I was like oh oh this is a book for me! I have only read one other R.L.Mathewson's book which is book 1 from the Neighbour from hell series called Playing for keeps which i loved! I know, I know just one other book *hangs head in shame* It is now on the top of my to-do list to get more books by this author read.

Tall, Dark & Lonely is book one in R.L. Mathewson’s Pyte/Sentinel series.I somehow got this notion that this was a funny book and would just be a fun, humorous book. And well it did have funny buts but there was a lot more to it and imagine my shock when it starts off on a serious note! It starts off telling us about Ephraim Williams and what happened in his past.We get insight into how things changed for him and the brutal condition he survived. My heart hurt for him and I really just wanted to make it all better for him!

Ephraim Williams is a special vampire known as a Pyte. Being a Pyte enables him to walk in the sunlight without being harmed. He has been alive over 200 years and settles in quiet areas and always keeps to himself. He is always in control of his blood lust and has never had a problem with it after he learned control.Things all change really fast when Madison Soloman becomes his new neighbour. He can't seem to stay away and his blood lust is out of control. She drives him crazy and he can't explain why her blood smells better than anyone else's.

Madison Soloman is a strong, responsible woman who has had to raise her brother and sister whilst her mother went away to do her own things, chasing men and so on.Nothing seems to be going well since her mother returned, they are on their way to live with their grandmother (their mums mum) who they haven't really met since their mother stopped talking to her parents. Madison has had alot on her plate, with raising the kids, putting herself through college, getting a job and so on. She hopes things with her grandma will help ease all the responsibilies.
Little does she know her new neighbour will change everything!

“I’m not asking you to love me. I’m asking you to let me love you. I’m fine if you never say it. I just want you, Madison.”

Madison was a likable character, she was funny with some of the things she came out with and she wasn't one of those whiny women thankfully because I am so sick of those. I loved the banter between Madison and Ephraim. Oh Ephraim oofftt he was so HOT!
R.L. Mathewson sure knows how to create sexy, hot, loveable male characters that make you wish you could live inside a book forever.I loved him, just didn't want this book to end, wanted more of Madison and Ephraim story. Hope we still see them in book 2.

“See that’s exactly what I’m saying. You’re seeing what you want, and what you see you explain away and excuse things like you’re fixing me. I’m not perfect, Ephraim and I really wish you would see that.”
“You drool.”
“What?” That caught her off guard.
“When you’re asleep you drool. I’ve woken up more than a few times with a little puddle forming on my chest.” After a thought he added. “And you snore. Not a delicate snore either mind you.”
“I do not!” Her face colored with indignation.
He sighed heavily as if the knowledge pained him. “Oh, but you do. I’ve even heard Jill talk about it. Did you know that’s the main reason she was happy about her room. Actually, she and Joshua thanked your Grandmother for putting you at the other end of the house, something about finally getting a decent night’s sleep. They compared your snore to a chainsaw. I can see why they’d say that.”

Hahaha! I can't wait for more and I hope that as the series goes on it only gets better.I would definitely recommend this to PRN lovers and anyone who loves humour, fast paced story and much more.I could not stop reading this book and was up late at night.I just had to finish it, I was totally absorbed on this book and wanted more.I didn't want it to finish yet I couldn't stop reading it..yeah not a great combination.

My other fav character has to be Chris he was hilarious! Such a strong, funny, adorable character who is rough around the edges due to circumstances he has been faced with at such an early age.

“It’s not complicated and it doesn’t compare to my problem, now give me a damn cookie I think I earned it,” Jill snapped.

Chris grinned like it was Christmas morning. “Yes, you did.” He brought her a cookie. “Very good, my young one. You’ve made Chris very happy with this little tidbit of information.”

I am looking forward to see how the story continues.Book 2 is Chris's story and I am intrigued.I will be looking forward to seeing how his story unfolds and what will happen to the rest of the characters.

Book Excerpt
I was in some sort of maze. Gray, cracked, stonewalls surrounded me. I was outside and
the sky was dreary. Why couldn’t I find someone with happy dreams? I mean, really are
all people’s psyche’s this messed up?
I felt the pull for me to move to my left. I stood my ground unwilling to follow the pull.
I wanted the dreamer to stop moving. But the more I stood there, I began to feel my skin
itch. I gave in and wandered around the maze.
“Nick?” He didn’t appear after a few minutes. “Nick?” But I got nothing.
I continued to wander. I didn’t have a problem until I cam to a dead end and the
dreamer kept moving. I tried to back track, fighting against the pull, but the maze was
harder to maneuver of my own free will. My skin itched and pulled and pinched. I
began to run, trying to make up the distance.
“Nick!” I needed Nick to get me out of here. “Nick!”
The pull continued attack my skin. I felt a rain drop on my upper lip. Great, it was going
to rain now I thought. I ran more and more and felt another drop. I touched my lip and
looked at my finger.
I stopped in my tracks. I touched my nose and found more blood on my hand. This
wasn’t happening. It was not real. I was not actually bleeding. It was a dream. But the
pull started again. I moved. I ran fast.
I came to a dead end almost with each turn. I could feel the blood drip out of my nose
like a leaky faucet. I wanted to scale the walls. I wanted to get the dreamer to just stop
moving, to make this feeling stop.
I needed to wake up.

 Excerpt

My insides hurt. I fold my arms across my stomach as they head out, but it doesn't help with the pain. I move to follow.
Mother touches my elbow. The touch startles me to a stop and she lets go. “I remember when I was chosen by your Father. It was a troublesome time, but you can do it. You're strong and your sisters need your example.”
I close my eyes and shake my head before opening them again. “I don't think I'm that type of strong.”
Mother sighs. “Maybe not, but you still have to go through it, society expects it. You'll have a new owner soon.”
She's right. A warlock could ask to buy me at any time. There's nothing I can do about it. I follow mother from the room, bowing my head with the hope that it will keep further attention from me. But it's too late to hope. I will always be owned.

Excerpt

The music started, even as the butterflies played with my insides, his eyes locked with mine as the song started up slowly. David Cook's The Time Of My Life came on, the music filling the room around us.  I stumbled when he moved, and started to apologize until I caught the smile on his lips.  "I can't dance, Ryder.  You never said anything about dancing when I signed the contract."
"Take off your shoes," he countered, already releasing me and bending over to take his own footwear off.  I watched him as others did the same and eventually I ignored the brilliant blush that crept up to my cheeks and did the same, stepping out of the borrowed strappy heels.
Ryder smiled, and I stared at him, he was shockingly beautiful and ethereal.  Like a lion, you wanted to touch him, but knew by doing so he'd consume you, body and soul.  I swallowed and held my hand up for him to take it.
"Put your feet on mine, Synthia," he said quietly, aware that everyone was watching us.
I exhaled and obeyed him, knowing his men were watching us, as well as my coven.  When the song restarted, he carried us both, his hand once again on the small of my back.  Rubbing it softly as his fingers settled against it.  My heart raced from his touch, the deep desire in his eyes made it flip-flop as he swept me around the room until everyone else faded away, leaving us alone inside the room.
I smiled as I looked down to see our feet together. Nervous at being so close to him and doing something I had only ever done with my father. It had been the last thing we’d ever done together.  But with Ryder, it was intimate, sending heat flooding through me.  I looked back up, with the smile still in place, to catch him staring openly in wonder at me.  "What?" I asked growing self-conscious.
"You’re very beautiful, Synthia," he whispered tenderly.

Guest Post

What inspired you to write Fae chronicles?
I’d have to say it started with my Grandmother, she would tell us stories when I and my siblings were young. When we got a little older, she had us help tell the stories. When we got old enough, we told her the stories in our own version. Of course mine always had a boy and girl, and even though they began with boy germs…they eventually evolved into romance. I've always been a sucker for a happy ending, but I was always wrapped up in how they got to it. I’m also a sucker for an ending I can’t see coming, so I make sure my fans can’t guess it either.

Do any of the characters you created share your personality traits, habits or anything similar to you?

Hmm, well, I’m obsessed with nail polish, and I honestly can’t write unless my toes are painted. Insane, I know, but really, even if I can’t see them, they have to be painted. I am not a human unless you add coffee, I speak zombie fluently until the third cup. I share these traits with Synthia. I’m sarcastic, and I think I’m witty; my husband calls it being a smartass. I am very loyal, and will cut my own nose off to help people, but I believe in karma, and I also love to help people. Syn also has these…they also say that writers end up adding traits into their characters without knowing it. Guilty.

Review: Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror #1) By Karina Halle

Synopsis
With all the vampire, werewolf and faerie books out there, it's easy to become numb to all things supernatural. The antidote? Darkhouse introduces two real and unforgettable characters, Perry Palomino & Dex Foray, amateur ghost hunters who are "attractive, relatable and oddly heroic," "flawed but loveable," "slightly crazy" and just the most endearing pair to ever tackle the paranormal...just don't call them normal.

Darkhouse is a thrilling and sexy new take on concepts like Supernatural and The X-Files, bringing a breath of fresh air to a genre that has been inundated with the dead.

My Review
3.5- 4 GHOST-HUNTING, INTRIGUING, FREAKY STARS!!

After reading a million status updates and all the reviews saying aww Dex this and Dex that and all love people have for this series I said to myself that I would definitely read this book and see what all the fuss was about. I was super excited to meet this Dex who has enchanted a whole lot of you.
And well what can I say..I LOVE DEX! Where can I buy one?!

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Were you staring at my ass?"
"Yes," he replied without hesitation.

I was a bit skeptical about starting this series the only books I have read on ghost hunting or something similar was a series about this hot ghost guy so yeh I was like hmmm what am I getting myself into?
The starting of this book for me was very slow and that's the reason I left it for a while and them came back to it way later and I made it my mission to finish!

I loved Dex and Perry they were both intriguing characters.
Perry is a relateable 22 year old girl she is a a receptionist which isn't exactly her dream job especially when she has a degree in advertising. All her life she has been looked at defferently, her visions and nightmares made her life a struggle. What was wrong with her?
And what happens when the nightmares, illusions start to creep into her reality? What happens when nothing really makes sense anymore?

"It sat there forgotten and lightless, a darkhouse overlooking the sea.."

Whilst visiting her Uncle she decides to go explore an abandoned lighthouse, ALONE! Its cold, wet and dark.As I was reading it I was like oh my god! Turn back woman turn back!!!It seemed totally creepy so yeah if that was me? No way in hell would I go exploring it at night..
But then again that's how she meets Dex! Soo okay I may reconsider if there was like a banner saying Dex is inside ;)

“Because sometimes I lie, Perry. We all lie, even you, but not everyone is brave enough to admit it.”

Dex is all over the place he is interesting and a little bit crazy! But but you still end up loving every bit of his weird character!

This is good book with a combination of horror, comedy and romance I will be reading book 2 soon I hope! Really do want to see what will happen between Dex and Perry.

“Somehow, by dealing with the dead, I had never felt so alive.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~
My Review
5 BRILLIANT,FAST-PACED,I-AM-ON-EDGE, OMG-I-NEED-MORE STARS!!

Okay wow! what a bloody roller-coaster ride!
The starting at first was like eh what's going on? Then you find out about Dante, Nick's dad and his story. In the previous books we aren't told much about his dad and what we are told doesn't show Dante in a positive light. The starting is vital and explains a lot into what actually happened before Nick and everyone else was born and how Savage has always been evil, and how he effects those around him.I felt so sorry for Dante and I totally understand why he wasn't close to his kids, why he pushed them away.He was like a little Nick aww bless him! You find out that Savage is an evil controlling power hungry man who like to be the one in charge.

The Poison carries on from where the previous book left off.I was a little nervous about reading this one as I just really didn't want Nick to go bad or bad things to happen! Oh how things changed.I was hooked and I couldn't stop reading, the twists and turns had me on edge and jittery.I needed to know what would happen next.
As Nick's power starts to heighten so does his enemies.

She falls to the floor with him in her arms and cries right along with him, and along with Elijah, me, and everyone else within ear shot. No on is dry-eyed tonight.

When you go to war some people will fall and others will survive. There are some heart-breaking moments that I just did not expect. Why? whyyyy? how cruel *sobbing*

I loved all the characters as I always have in this series the new ones were mostly evil! I wanted to help kill them pftt. Kayla as always loved her spirit and charisma, she kept on fighting, she can't lose.
And she is going to go get her Nick back.Yes Yes you go girl!!

“Will I die running or will I die fighting? For Nick ... I would die fighting the devil himself.”

Nicky is such a cutie aww! In this book you see more of Elijah loved him, his funny comments and well just all of him. I really hope he settles down I feel so sorry for him as he wants a family like Nicks.
He is so sweet and lovely with Kayla in this one but there is still banter Ryan, Elijah and Kayla make a great team!

True to his word, Elijah never makes a move, but he holds my hand whenever I need him to.-Kayla

I want my Nick back!! NOW! I hope the last book ends well.I was surprised that this book doesn't end on a cliffhanger yet it still makes you want to carry on reading. Ahhh Brilliant! Well done Jennifer Loren!!

Right now lets get to Franky or as I like to call her..Fanny face! Urghhh I wanted to kill her..did I say kill her? why yes I guess I did but wait i don't want to shoot her or stab her no no that would just be too kind.I would like to rip her apart and chop her into tiny pieces coz I am just an awesome person :)

Bring on the next book!!

Mini interview

For JLA – What made you decide to go back and write Daimon?
I wanted to show the readers what Alex was facing at the beginning of Half-Blood that caused her to have trust issues and such a bad attitude.

For Alex – If you could time travel back to the day Aiden came to bring you back to the covenant, what’s the one thing you would tell him the moment you saw him?
You’re hot.

For Aiden – Knowing the end, would you still go after Alex to bring her back to the covenant?
I would have still gone after Alex, but I wouldn’t have taken her back to the Covenant.  I would have taken her away somewhere that I felt I could protect her.
