Review: The Man I Love (The Fish Tales #1) by Suanne Laqueur

22515690

Synopsis
Erik "Fish" Fiskare loves the theatre, but he’s more intrigued by the wizardry behind the red curtain than the spectacle center stage. That is, until Daisy Bianco steps into the spotlight. The moment Erik lays eyes on this ballerina, his atoms rearrange and the young stagehand will never be the same.

For two years, the romance thrives within a tight-knit circle of artists and friends. Then, a newcomer arrives—James, a brilliant but erratic dancer with a misguided infatuation and a burning desire to belong. Rejection sets James on a course for destruction and when the smoke clears, Erik’s world is torn apart. He soon discovers that in the face of heartache, grief and betrayal, love is not always enough to make you stay. And sometimes, it’s the only thing that can bring you back.

Spanning fifteen years and following a man's thrilling emotional journey back to the truth of himself, this award-winning novel has gripped readers and placed Laqueur as one of the most exciting debut authors of 2015. The Man I Love is an epic tale of love and forgiveness that will linger long after the last page is turned.

My Review
4.5 Beautiful, Enigmatic Stars!!

I don't even know where to begin with this review and explain to you all about what I felt whilst reading it.I tell you now this book really makes you FEEL everything! So much happens and all the up and downs make you feel like you are interlinked with all these characters. This story was much more that just a normal story. This was real, powerful and consuming.

'In the dark. What are you like in the dark?'

When I got asked to review this arc I had no clue what it was about and I read the title and was like Fish Tales? Tell me it's not about a guy who turns into a fish or something bizarre like that haha. Luckily I checked goodreads and well that's when I discovered that this book has amazing reviews,so I thought why not lets give this a shot. i didn't actually read the blurb or reviews it was more on the ratings and I prefer not going in with too much information since I know it can put me off at times, causing me to miss out on some incredible books.

'This was the real story. This was how it started. Not with locked eyes during romance and sex, but with blood.'

I don't feel like I need to summarize the book since the synopsis gives you most of that anyways but what it misses out is what a painful, brutal journey you experience whilst reading this book. I recommend you go in blind and experience everything. One of the things I absolutely loved was the writing. This book is written BEAUTIFULLY!

'Her gravity was so strong, his attraction to her so complex and layered, he felt he was drifting in another dimension.'

The story starts so lovely, it has a slow and beautiful sensation of falling in love, feeling on top of the world.Light and airy, like you could do anything. It's brutal how this book lulls you in to a sweet innocent atmosphere away from anything painful and then allows it all to crash down on you when you least expect it.I remember getting half way and to that one massively painful part and being so angry. SO angry. I couldn't believe the turn things had taken and how had it got there. I was Eric, I understood what he did and it may have been wrong but it was real and I felt like in that position I would have done the same. My heart broke for him and everything else fell short. Nothing else mattered, I rooted for him wanting him to be successful finding happiness again yet I felt his ache, even in all the happy places there was this raw ache that wouldn't allow him to be fully happy.

'I could never hate you.But now I can never love you.The two nevers cancelled each other out.Leaving nothing.'

But in the end after all the pain, anger, misery and failure, every single emotion he went through things had to be forgiven. Everything he went through, which I went through with him, there came a point where it all made sense where there was this calmness and dulling of the pain. So in some ways time does heal. Things had to get right again and it would only become like that when every missing part of Eric was put back together in a sense. I never thought I would feel like that by the end but I did and that's a first which makes this author even more awesome.

'They gathered together in the evenings, yet each struggled alone.'

I can't wait to read the rest in this series and I'm hoping they are all as amazing as this one. I need to know what happens with all the other characters and if things would go back to normal, what is normal? I have a lot of unanswered questions I hope they will get answered in the next books. Btw there are so many sections and quotes I highlighted. SO MUCH!

Review: Falling Completely (Starling Falls, #1) By Aidan Willows

Synopsis

MALIYA
Falling in love is not for me. I don’t do relationships, they never end well.
I don’t believe in fate, soul mates or happy, fairy tale endings. I’m definitely not a sweet little princess in search of her prince.
I have a plan to follow and falling in love is not part of that plan.
Nothing is going to change my mind.
Not even a domineering, gorgeous, blue-eyed firefighter who seems to be everywhere I go.

CALEB
The moment I saw her, I knew.
I knew the funny, curvy, raven haired beauty was supposed to be mine.
She may not agree with me at the moment, but I’m a patient man.
I’m not afraid to play dirty to get what I want.
And I want Maliya Abbott.

When her sister decides to move from London, across the Atlantic Ocean to Starling Falls to run an estranged relative’s bakery, Maliya Abbott is pretty sure her sister has lost her ever-loving mind.

Not wanting to be separated from the only family she has left, Maliya goes with her, a move that was only supposed to last a year. After all, training to be a doctor at the same University her parents did had always been her goal.
What she hadn’t planned on, was meeting Caleb Jameson. A man who is adamant they are destined to be together. That would be great, if she actually believed in any of that crap.

She also hadn’t planned on his insane, lovable, meddling family trying to derail her plans.

Maliya is a smart girl. She knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. She definitely wants to go to Oxford University and train to become a doctor. She definitely does NOT want anything to do with Caleb Jameson.

Now, if only she could get her stupid heart to listen to her head.

Authors Note: 18+ For mature readers only. Book contains graphic language, scenes of a very sexual nature, a dirty-talking and determined alpha male, a sassy and food obsessed heroine who talks to herself far too much, a cynical and suspicious geriatric aunt, a meddlesome family, some very unhelpful friends, a mind controlling goldfish and a possibly cannibalistic cat…

My Review

3 Stars!

This is book 1 in the Starling Falls series and the author Aidan Willow's debut novel. This one is about Caleb, one of the many hot Jameson brothers in the family and Maliya who has traveled with her sister to help her get settled into Starling Falls to run their estranged family members bakery. She is only going for a year and then has to return to carry on with her career plan. She never would have thought that in this strange little place she would find someone who made her feel the way Caleb does. There is no denying the connection and sexual chemistry between these two!

This book reminded me of Until series by ARR and I have been wanting to find more series like that one. I enjoyed this book, the funny moments, the sweet ones, the sizzling chemistry and much more. I liked how there wasn't unnecessary drama, no crazy ex or just all out annoying stuff happening apart from when Maliya annoyed me near the end with something I felt was not needed. I felt like it came out of nowhere and didn't feel like it was something she had throughout the book.Maybe if some part of it was mentioned at the start or throughout the book it would have been different. I guess I wasn't expecting it so it kind of put me off. I loved how determined and focused Caleb was, he never gave up and he made me laugh.

Also the brothers are awesome! I'm intrigued as to how Nate's story will go he is just so mysterious and aloof that it makes me want more of him. I'm looking forward to more from this author and to see how she grows and how the Jameson brothers stories progress!

Review: Elite (Eagle Elite, #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

Synopsis
When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.

But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon.

Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.

And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.

*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.*

My Review
4 Elite Stars!!

Okay I am kicking myself for not reading this sooner! A friend of mine had been telling me to read it for a while and I blew it off, just not really giving it much thought and then I realised that I requested this book from NetGalley ages ago and never got round to it. I decided to finally put me foot down and get reading. I remember starting a few pages but I was in a book funk and gave up to try again at a later time. Right now I have my reading mojo back and I was totally ready for it. I actually really enjoyed it and will definitely be reading on.

This is book 1 of Eagle Elite series and its got the whole mafia/criminal family thing going on which I had no idea about. My preconceived idea of this book was that it was some sort of spy/agent book? A school to train people in powers? Okay I can feel you all thinking what the hell? ..I don't even know what to say *shrugs* I guess I should stop assuming things.

"Maybe the world isn't as shiny and fun as you once thought. People are mean. Humanity is a cruel joke, Trace. I'm just trying to prevent them from getting the last laugh."

So the book, lets get back to the book. Trace is starting Eagle Elite College which is basically a college for the rich kids or those that will make the next presidents and so on. Trace is nothing like these people and the only reason she is here is because she won some sort of lottery that the college holds so one lucky winner gets to attend the college with all the rich people and so on.Trace is so out of her depth and it only gets worse when she meets Nixon and his crew who basically own the school and create all the rules. From then on things don't exactly go smoothly.

“—Nope. You’ve already broken a rule. I’m speaking, New Girl.” Chase smirked. “Geez, Nixon, this one’s going to be hard to break in.”
“They always are,” Nixon replied, lifting my chin with his hand. “But I think I’ll enjoy this one.”

Nixon, oh Nixon at the start I was like what the hell? Why are you so mean! But with all assholes you end up loving them in the end. Well actually is went more like me hating him to liking him to feeling lost and losing interest in him and just not knowing how I feel. I liked him as a bad boy or more of the guy in charge. On another note I got this feeling of a love triangle which I thought or was hoping didn't exist but now I'm a little miffed and seriously don't want the next book to be a full n love triangle because they usually really irritate me and someone always gets hurt and i start hating the girl for loving two men. Like please woman, stop being greedy!

Okay I'm going to quit ranting and get onto book 2, lets hope all goes well and it only gets better since I have heard a lot of people love this series. I want to be one of those people! ;)

My Review

3.5 Stars!!

This is the first book I have read by Chanel Cleeton and I am pleasantly surprised. After not reading for what seems like ages but I''m sure it was only a day or two but it felt like a long time anyways this was great. I loved how action packed it was but not over the top or too much. It's been a while since I read anything consisting of adventure/ action in it and this really worked.

'We're in way over our heads and I need him as an asset more than I can want him as a man.'

The characters were likable, even though X did annoy me at times.I loved how Luke and X had great chemistry. I wanted to know more about them or have Luke's POV. I wanted more on their relationship and romance, also the whole Academy thing could have been explained better or been a bit more detailed I think that's where it dropped points. I needed more!

This is book 1 of a series but can be read as a standalone. It's a fast- paced book which will keep you on the edge of your seat! I'm looking forward to the next book I wonder who it will be about.I would have loved for Luke and X's story to continue on, I'm not sure how it will all come together but it definitely started off well and hopefully it can only get better.

My Review

4.5 Stars!!

You know a book is good when you finish it in the same day you started it and you could not stop reading. Yes, that was me and I was zooming right through it unknowingly and I randomly decided to check how far into the book I was, now I thought I'd be around 30% mark but nooo here I was round 80%. This is when the panic set in and I was freaking out because it just couldn't be ending soon. I'm sure I just started this, how could this be?!

And then T.M Frazier..what the fuck? The end was like oh shit I need more right now! being a cliffhanger and all that but then you go and add an excerpt of Soulless which is out in SPRING 2016! TOOO FAR AWAY!! But what the frikin hell? Are you trying to kill me? THAT EXCERPT!!!

"He'd claimed me. Body and soul...in that moment there was no more hiding, no more denying the truth. Bear was right. I'd always been his."

I don't want to give anything away I think everyone needs to go in blind and let the book take you on a crazy roller-coaster. I love this author's writing, how it always manages to keep me hooked until the end and the darkness. The raw, dark, gritty elements to all her books. I totally needed that!

lawless it's live.jpg

Excerpt

“I’m going to remember this as the worst time in my entire life. The very worst.” She shook her head. “There is nothing I can do to change that. Girls my age are playing sports, going to dances and parties, kissing boys. And that’s never been me. I’ve had a full time job at the grove and a part time job at the Stop-N-Shop. I’ve done nothing over the last few years except work my ass off and watch my family fall apart. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse…now all this.” She waived around to the house and to me and let out an awkward laugh. She took another hit off the bowl, passing it back to me. Her coughing much less than it was on her first try.

“Ti, how old are you?” I asked, clearing my throat as I ventured into territory I knew I shouldn’t. She was a pistol, even if she was a sad one, but there was a wave of innocence about her that had me both feeling bad for her and salivating for a taste of her.
This is for her, not you. I told myself. It was only a partial lie.

“Seventeen,” She said, sniffling. “Eighteen soon.”

“You ever been kissed?” I asked, her eyes met mine. “And not a peck on the cheek or a brief smack of the lips, but a real fucking kiss? One that leaves you without air in you lungs and your thighs pressing together in search of more?” I said, my voice coming out deep and strained. My cock coming alive at the thought of tracing my tongue along her pump lips.

“Why?” She whispered, and as soon as the words left her mouth I knew there would be no coming back from what I was about to do.

I pushed off the fire pit and pulled her up off the chair, pressing her tits into my chest and my straining cock against her stomach. I tipped her chin up and looked into her confused emerald greens. She followed my thumb with her eyes as I traced her bottom lip. There were too many lines marring her face, questioning what it was I was up to. I knew she would try to pull away at any second, try to stop me. But it was too late for that.

I was beyond stopping.

Just one taste.

“Answer the question,” I pressed.

“No,” she said with a slight shake of her head, and before she could try to argue, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers.
I was already going to hell.
Might as well enjoy the ride there.

My Review

4 Stars!

I started reading this and could not stop so I was sneaking off to quite corners when I was forced to attend a family gathering, this really kept me going! I finished it half way through the day which sucked and I've just got home and started this review because I will end up forgetting how i felt and yada yada, so here goes..

'All monsters look peaceful in their sleep'

Stabled is book 1 in a trilogy and ends in a cliffhanger, it's not for those who don't enjoy darker elements in books or one who likes to stick to the 'norm'.This is the first book I have read by Penny Lam and lets be honest it's probably not going to be the last.

Maple is a quite, sort of shy woman with a dark past, one that she can't seem to run from. When hired by a rich cowboy called J.B. Deyton things end up getting worse instead of better. It's like her she just can't escape her dirty little past maybe it's time to embrace it. Her curiosity ends up getting her in to a lot of bother, secrets are revealed and there are some things you just can't come back from.

I'm so confused about how I feel about this book, like uhm wow this was soooo not what I had expected.I'm still trying to kind of get my head around it. I started this and thought it would be a cowboy romance, I missed out the part where it was a dark romance. I see how it is, there are quite a few dark elements to it which I usually try to stay away from. I've read books with the whole hardcore pain and pleasure element of it and it's fine when its a little bit but too much and it puts me off the book. If I know it will be in the book I usually avoid the book, it's just not my thing but..this worked.

I'm so intrigued with what will happen next, never have I read the whole 'pony girls'thing which you will understand what I mean when you read it. I don't want to give anything away. It's just a book you have to read to understand, even though I don't even fully understand this.Like whaat? When did this become a thing? Its weird yet I want to carry on and see how things go.

My thoughts on Maple are confused,I don't get her kind of kink, I want to see J.B's reaction when she tells him of her past.J.B is a bloody mystery. What are you? I would love a chapter in his POV just to get more insight to his character and past.I can't wait for book 2!

My Review

4 Stars!!

The V Girl is Mya Robart's debut novel and I think she did a very good job on it.It is set in post-apocalyptic North America, a time where sexual abuse, violence and death is a norm. The topics and parts of this book had darkness to it yet it didn't overpower the story. Its a dark subject but it didn't make the book a sort of depressing, gloomy book that it could have been. There were a lot of elements to it with some twists I wasn't expecting.

Lila is a character that has to grow up fast and she becomes head of the family. She is the one everyone relies on and looks up to. With a sick brother and a younger sister to protect from anyone who may try to rape her.She is called V girl since she is a virgin and it is something she wants to get rid of. She wants to lose her virginity with her consent because if or when she gets recruited the soldiers will definitely rape her and take it by force. In her haste to get rid of it she becomes desperate. She decides to ask her friend Rey who she has known forever and trusts.Things don't go to plan when Aleksey Fürst enters the scene.

“You usually can’t recall all the people you’ve shared laughs with. But you rarely forget the people you’ve shared your tears with.”

First of all Lila at points really annoyed me with her desperation to get rid of her virginity like I understood why but she made silly rash decisions that left her in awkward situations. They could have all been avoided and she did do some immature things. I know she is young and I guess that's on me since I usually read adult novels due to the maturity factor.I felt like she jumped to conclusions without thinking things through.

Because I loved Aleksey, I'm sorry but Rey had to be on my shit list. I don't think I've ever liked two guys in a book where they both like the heroine. I love one of them and have to hate the other, I just can't help it. I know Rey wasn't a bad guy but no, just no. I stacked everything against him when I fell for Aleksey. This isn't a love triangle but at times felt like it but not to the point where it put me off since I can't stand love triangles.

I would have loved some chapters to be in Aleksey's point of view since he was quite a mysterious character and I wanted to know more about him. I didn't want this book to end nearing the end I felt a little panicky since I felt like there was quite a lot left, that needed to be added yet there were so little pages left. Will we get more? I felt like it was left quite unfinished like there may be more in store.I felt like the deflowering bit was quite stretched out, like I just wanted it done with and to see their relationship slowly building and becoming stronger.

Mya Robarts..Can we have little Aleskey babies? That would be so awesome! I'd love a novella or something showing them both in the future. There were a few characters I wanted t know more about, what happened to them and so on like Rey's brother and Tristan!

Looking forward to more from this author :)

Review: Unblocked - Episode Five (Timber Towers #5) by Marni Mann

Synopsis
Derek Block needs to protect those he cares about.

Frankie Jordan fears the loss of those she loves.

Darkness drives them.
But could it drive them apart?
This is Episode Five, the final Episode in the Timber Towers Series.

My Review

4 Terrific Stars!

First of all I'd like to thank Marni Mann because this serial has made me more likely to pick up more serials, like I always try avoid them and feel like they aren't for me. I was so wrong!

“He gave me what I needed...he gave me everything I needed.”

This is the last part in the five part series and oh what a journey it has been.It all came down to this final conclusion where we have everything laid open and how every piece made sense.I'm sad to see it end, I'd have loved more to it. Okay I have to say I was kind of hoping that the ending would have some of hint at babies! Little baby Derek or Frankie and I guess I wanted to see them playing the roles of parents to finish off the serial.

You see character development as the parts go on, you see them change and grow.Even their relationship becomes more open and without all the secrecy there is a growth of trust and love. This serial has been a rough, hopeful, forbidden yet dirty hot and raw. They have surpassed all these roadblocks and finally made it.

I can't wait to read more from Marni Mann because I'm hoping it can only get better ;)

Review: Unblocked - Episode Four (Timber Towers, #4) by Marni Mann

Synopsis
Derek Block is ready to fight.
Frankie Jordan must make a decision.
Their pasts are demanding attention.
Confessing their truth may not be enough.
But can their intense passion sustain them?
This is Episode Four of the five-episode Timber Towers novella series.

My Review

4 Stars!!

This is episode 4 of the five part serial by Marni Mann and well I have to say this woman really knows how to keep you hooked into the book. I just wanted to quickly rush into the next one and see what happens next. The episodes are always left at a cliffhanger f sorts which really gets you excited for the next part, awesome thing is that they don't disappoint!

In this part you delve deeper in the characters and their pasts. It was like each part was slowly revealing a part f the puzzle, a part of a whole that is to all come together in the end. Frankie and Derek are two strong willed driven characters that have a lot to lose if they become vulnerable. They both have been keeping their past a secret and when it all comes out will they be able to continue or will it shatter everything?

Each part consisted of growth in the relationship between the main characters, a forbidden relationship they shouldn't be perusing yet it all becomes too much and feelings over ride all the fears. It all comes together with one hot bang ;)

My Review
4 Awesome Stars!!

I've really been looking for this book, any book related to the Mayson's family I am all in for. After reading Until July and getting a small glimpse at Jax and Ellie at the end.I just knew it would be another book of ARR that I would love. I know people like to hate on insta-love and how it is so unrealistic and so on but I just don't care.I read books to escape reality, I don't need another dose of reality in books. Well it all depends on my mood and I was in an inst-love kind of mood so this book just did the trick.I don't think any books in the Until series has let me down and I just want more!

"You were made for me. You're everything I never knew I wanted."

Jax is the son of Cash and Lily and I adored that book and couldn't wait to see how this would go. I Loved Ellie and Jax's chemistry, they clicked so well. How they felt about each other and everything that came with the BOOM was new and different. Whilst Jax turned full on alpha, Ellie was cautious and I guess scared to jump into something so quickly. And well as you all know Mayson's don't exactly do the going slow, they kind of take over. Ellie has lived a rough life and when the opportunity to give Hope a safe house to live in she takes it, anything to keep Hope safe even if it means moving in with Jax. Jax was a loving alpha who just wanted to take care of Ellie and Hope. Aww Hope and Jax moments were adorable, he fit into their little family perfectly as Hope and Ellie fit right into his big family.

Okay one thing that was constantly on my mind when I read this book was frikin Sage's book. I can't even wait, I really need to know whats going to happen and how and when will we get his book? I need to know more about this situation. Looking forward to more in this series!

Review: Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins

Synopsis

Can Anna find love in the City of Light?

Anna is happy in Atlanta. She has a loyal best friend and a crush on her coworker at the movie theater, who is just starting to return her affection. So she's less than thrilled when her father decides to send her to a boarding school in Paris for her senior year.

But despite not speaking a word of French, Anna meets some cool new people, including the handsome Étienne St. Clair, who quickly becomes her best friend. Unfortunately, he's taken —and Anna might be, too. Will a year of romantic near misses end with the French kiss she's waiting for?

My Review
4.5 Sweet Stars!!

“For the two of us, home isn't a place. It is a person. And we are finally home.”

Aww this was just such a cute, sweet book but that wasn't all it was, there was so much more to it.The cover being all pink and bright and you go into thinking oh it is going to be light and fluffy but it has topics that a lot of people can relate to.I don't really read young adult anymore because I always feel like the characters or topics won't be relate-able anymore or too childish for my liking. But I was wrong, so wrong because I started this book and couldn't stop it was this well written book which captured all these emotions, frustrations and the desperateness of first love. It was about belonging somewhere out of your comfort zone and finding home in an unexpected place.

“The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things upset you.”

Anna and St.Clair relationship developed slowly and I adored their friendship and how cute they were. There were a few times St.Clair annoyed me and I wanted to shake him and tell him to either risk it all or not give out dumb hints.I understood to an extent what he was doing and why he didn't want to risk it all but it was just a step that needed to be taken. The characters were all likeable, well St.Clair's girlfriend was meh, annoying.

The whole story had such an innocent, light-hearted vibe to it and I can't wait to carry on with the series. This may be my first book I have read by Stephanie Perkins but it definitely won't be my last. I love my paperback and need the rest of the books in the series, the colours would look so pretty on my shelf, the pink one is getting lonely. Oh and I apologise to every person who recommended this book and I put it off, shame on me! :D

"If you ask me to kiss you, I will," he says.

His fingers stroke the inside of my wrists, and I burst into flames.
"Kiss me," I say.
He does.
