Review: King (Las Vegas Bad Boys #2) by Frankie Love

Synopsis
Landon

My life is as good as it bloody gets. I may be an Englishman, but I'm living the American dream.
In Vegas I f*ck who I want, when I want, and how I want.
Unfortunately, my father needs to pass on the family business and doesn't think sleeping around gives me the credentials I need.
I've got one week to convince him and the rest of my old school, English family that I've changed my wild ways and settled down with a "proper" girl.
The problem?

Claire's hiding something. Which seriously complicates things. She's supposed to help me get what I want ... but my fake fiancĂ© might just ruin it all.

Claire
Meeting Landon could be the best thing that's ever happened to me ... or the worst.
He's the only man I've considered sleeping with in years ... which says a helluva lot. Mostly that I'm horny as heck, but also that Landon makes me feel sexy ... beautiful ... wanted. Things I never thought I'd feel.
Not to mention he's richer than God. Or will be if I can help him for just one week, convincing his family that we're in love and not just scheming to help him inherit the family business.

If the plan works, he'll pay me a quarter of a million dollars.
But if he finds out who I really am, he'll call off our deal.
And I can't let that happen. Not just because I desperately need the money ... but because the time I spend with him makes me believe that true love might be real after all.
But Landon is a player. And I can't bear to have my heart broken.

So I'm all in with the plan ... but terrified that I'm about to make the biggest mistake of my life ... falling in love with a man who can't be trusted.

Review

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I don't know how many stars to even give this one so I'm going to stick to 3
I finished the first book in the Las Vegas Bad Boys series and after reading the snippet of this book I had to carry on.

Overall I'm not saying it was a bad book I enjoyed it but there was alot that was missing for me. I read reviews both of the first book and this one about how this one was much better. I'm not sure why maybe the mood i was in the insta love just worked and this one there was annoying parts and it just feels unfinished I wanted so much more from the book and then i was cheking the pages thinking no..it cant end so soon there is so much to explore here. If there is a continuation and I'm just here bitching about this forgive me i guess? But i'm under the impression these are all standalones

Claire annoyed me with all the secretive parts and lying i guess. She had so many opportunities to tell Landon and it felt like one thing after another. Its like one lie leads to so many more and I was stressed out for her and was just getting so annoyed the more she dragged it on. But my main annoyance was that there was no slow build up between Claires daughter and Landon. I wanted to see him being a father figure, and to see him in that light. It just didnt feel like in the end there was a proper family feel. I needed there to have been more dialogue between the two. But it mainly focused on Landon and Claire even thought the big secret had such a focus but just not in the right way.

I enjoyed Landon slowly changing throughout the book, taking responsibility and being the man his parents knew he could be. How Claires support and love makes him want to be and do more. To be a better man which is endearing.

Review: Falling Completely (Starling Falls, #1) By Aidan Willows

Synopsis

MALIYA
Falling in love is not for me. I don’t do relationships, they never end well.
I don’t believe in fate, soul mates or happy, fairy tale endings. I’m definitely not a sweet little princess in search of her prince.
I have a plan to follow and falling in love is not part of that plan.
Nothing is going to change my mind.
Not even a domineering, gorgeous, blue-eyed firefighter who seems to be everywhere I go.

CALEB
The moment I saw her, I knew.
I knew the funny, curvy, raven haired beauty was supposed to be mine.
She may not agree with me at the moment, but I’m a patient man.
I’m not afraid to play dirty to get what I want.
And I want Maliya Abbott.

When her sister decides to move from London, across the Atlantic Ocean to Starling Falls to run an estranged relative’s bakery, Maliya Abbott is pretty sure her sister has lost her ever-loving mind.

Not wanting to be separated from the only family she has left, Maliya goes with her, a move that was only supposed to last a year. After all, training to be a doctor at the same University her parents did had always been her goal.
What she hadn’t planned on, was meeting Caleb Jameson. A man who is adamant they are destined to be together. That would be great, if she actually believed in any of that crap.

She also hadn’t planned on his insane, lovable, meddling family trying to derail her plans.

Maliya is a smart girl. She knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. She definitely wants to go to Oxford University and train to become a doctor. She definitely does NOT want anything to do with Caleb Jameson.

Now, if only she could get her stupid heart to listen to her head.

Authors Note: 18+ For mature readers only. Book contains graphic language, scenes of a very sexual nature, a dirty-talking and determined alpha male, a sassy and food obsessed heroine who talks to herself far too much, a cynical and suspicious geriatric aunt, a meddlesome family, some very unhelpful friends, a mind controlling goldfish and a possibly cannibalistic cat…

My Review

3 Stars!

This is book 1 in the Starling Falls series and the author Aidan Willow's debut novel. This one is about Caleb, one of the many hot Jameson brothers in the family and Maliya who has traveled with her sister to help her get settled into Starling Falls to run their estranged family members bakery. She is only going for a year and then has to return to carry on with her career plan. She never would have thought that in this strange little place she would find someone who made her feel the way Caleb does. There is no denying the connection and sexual chemistry between these two!

This book reminded me of Until series by ARR and I have been wanting to find more series like that one. I enjoyed this book, the funny moments, the sweet ones, the sizzling chemistry and much more. I liked how there wasn't unnecessary drama, no crazy ex or just all out annoying stuff happening apart from when Maliya annoyed me near the end with something I felt was not needed. I felt like it came out of nowhere and didn't feel like it was something she had throughout the book.Maybe if some part of it was mentioned at the start or throughout the book it would have been different. I guess I wasn't expecting it so it kind of put me off. I loved how determined and focused Caleb was, he never gave up and he made me laugh.

Also the brothers are awesome! I'm intrigued as to how Nate's story will go he is just so mysterious and aloof that it makes me want more of him. I'm looking forward to more from this author and to see how she grows and how the Jameson brothers stories progress!

My Review

2.5-3 Stars!

This is book 3 in the Born in Blood series and after reading Dante's book I jumped to this one because I was enjoying this series. This is about Matteo, Luca's brother and Aria's sister. We all know Gianna is adamant that she will not marry and Matteo is determined to marry her at whatever cost. You find out in the previous book in this series that Gianna has ran away and in this one we get a lot more insight. I'm glad we got some of Matteo's point of view in this one or else I would have gone crazy.

Matteo to Luca..
"Stop hovering. People will think you're my sugar daddy."

I was really looking forward to getting more of Matteo but not so excited with the thought of having the book taken over by Gianna, who even though we weren't told a lot on the bits I read made it quite clear how immature and impulsive she was.Her being so against anything Mafia related was one thing but her all out stubbornness, pride and stupid decisions just all out annoyed me. She was loud and said what was on her mind until the moment she was actually supposed to speak up she was quiet!

We arrived at Luca's car. He opened the door for me.
"Don't think I'll put out just because you're being a gentleman;"...
"Don't worry your backdoor is safe."

Haha Matteo was great, I wanted more of his and his pov but with maybe more insight on his past or life in general I felt like I didn't get enough. This was such a quick read for me just like the previous books in the series because I zoomed through them.Even if something the characters did bothered me I could not stop reading and the endings get to me. I fee like they all end abruptly, I need a little bit more and it's like it takes the whole book for things to solve and then boom the end. I still want more and will be carrying on with this series. I'm curious to see how Liliana's story will unravel and I'm looking forward to more action hopefully.

Review: You Don't Have to Say You Love Me by Sarra Manning

Synopsis
Sweet, bookish Neve Slater always plays by the rules and the number one rule is that good-natured fat girls like her don't get guys like gorgeous, handsome William, heir to Neve's heart since university. But William's been in LA for three years, and Neve's been slimming down and re-inventing herself so that when he returns, he'll fall head over heels in love with the new, improved her.

So she's not that interested in other men. Until her sister Celia points out that if Neve wants William to think she's an experienced love-goddess and not the fumbling, awkward girl he left behind, then she'd better get some, well, experience.

What Neve needs is someone to show her the ropes, someone like Celia's colleague Max. Wicked, shallow, sexy Max. And since he's such a man-slut, and so not Neve's type, she certainly won't fall for him. Because William is the man for her... right?

My Review
3 Stars!!

This book took me a while to get through, I don't usually take this long I think its due to the fact that parts of this book had me so frustrated and annoyed and others were at times too slow for my liking.

Max and Neve are the main characters and they both have issues they need to deal with. Neve thinks she is in love with William some boring guy that is out of the country at the moment and when he comes back she doesnt want him to see her as the fat girl he left but the size 10 women she strives to become. She thinks when he returns and sees her he will fall in love and they will live happily ever after discussing literature and being boring. He just bored me and anyone but Neve could see that they were too similar and she needed someone who was a lot more fun and well totally different from Neve.

This is where Max comes in who works with Neve's sister.Max doesn't do relationships, thats his problem. He sleeps around and gets bored and sleeps around some more. When these two characters meet they connect, they are totally different yet they are drawn together. So what happens when Neve proposes a pancake relationship? (You have to read it to understand the pancake relationship) He totally agrees, what could possibly go wrong?

“That was the worst thing about having a relationship with someone, even a pretend relationship. You opened up, let someone in, and when it was over, they had all the ammunition they needed to completely destroy you.”

Neve wants to get some experience and brush up on her flirting skills and so on..who better to try with than Max, someone who could never be attracted to her..or so she thinks.

Overall I liked it, it had some pretty funny, cute parts and I really like Max. Aww Max! But he did have a big problem ignoring such obvious hints! I wanted to smack him around the head at times. Most of all Neve frustrated me to no end, her distorted thinking, all the issues she had that she needed to work out instead of dieting. It all starts from loving yourself no matter what size you are, if you can't do that then you can be size 6 and still find yourself fat or repulsive. It's more about inner beauty. I really wanted to scream at Neve when she thought about William like omg DOES HE EVEN LIKE YOU? It was a lot about her! I hope you enjoy this book more than I did :)

My Review
3 Stars!!

"We've never been over. You know it as well as I do. Even when I was halfway around the world and you hated my guts, we weren't over. You can feel it between us now. And the closer we are, the stronger it gets."

Okay why did I think this was a standalone? Why do I never pay attention to these things? Pft! Well I finished this one and I know that the majority of the reviews I have seen are rated 5 star but I'm really not sure what to rate mine.
I think this book really needed at least some parts with Ethan's POV. I swear that would have been so useful. Throughout this book we flipped from past to future, is it just me who liked things to go in order.Like simple few flashbacks are fine but the constant back and forth really didn't do it for me.I wanted it to start from when the main characters are introduced to each other and show their dysfunctional relationship then skip a few years until they meet again.

I really liked the writing and it made me want to read on.There were some quite funny parts which is an obvious plus and also the chemistry between the main characters, I loved. There was passion, raw emotions, heartbreak, love and a second-chance? Who knows what will happen and how the story will continue.

"I want things to be different. If you want me to apologize, I'll do it until I lose my fucking voice. I just want things to be right between us. Talk to me. Help me fix this."

I'm not a fan of lots of push and pull, so one person begging for the other one and the not being together even though both the characters want to be together. Why do people not want to be happy? I like happy okay! I'm still trying to gather my thoughts on this one. I just didn't feel as connected to the story and characters as I like to be. And it did cause the book to drag for me, I don't usually take this long to read a book.

Came back to it and it 2.5 for the lack of connection but then there were parts that I enjoyed so I would overall give it 3 Stars.I really wish I could give it higher ratings but it just wasn't one for me.Even though I didn't love it you just might soo if it looks like something you would enjoy. do give it a shot and I hope it turns out better for you! :)

This is an old review of mine that was on my GoodReads but I forgot to add to my blog!

My Review

3 cute, fun filled stars!

When I got this book it did remind me of What happens in Vegas at the start but anyways this was short and fun.I knew what would happen in this book well main bits anyways the title gives it away!

It all start off when Megan wakes up in a strange bed with a man and finds out that she married him. Connor remembers what happened the night before as for Megan everything is a little fuzzy and she doesn't remember why she would marry someone she had just met.She wants a divorce whilst Connor wants to make the marriage work.

I enjoyed the book I liked how it was funny and cute!I needed a quick book to read and this is what i picked out. There were parts that annoyed me like how distrustful Megan was,I understood her past made her how she is but C'mon now! Connor was funny but he never wanted to see what he felt for Megan he was too busy creating the perfect marriage.

“Life isn't about getting everything you want the instant you want it.Some thing are worth waiting for.”

Both Megan and Connor have past issues that they need to work on which causes the marriage to have its ups and downs. This book is in both Megan and Connor's POV which helps give you better understanding of both characters.

“Connor looking at the text he sent Jeff the night before:

8:42pm..Reed:Need you to go to Denver w me.
8:46pm..Jeff: in meeting. give me 1 hr.
8:53pm..Reed: no can do. want wife back. going now. think i cn talk her into it wth sperm.

Hell. Please don't let him have called her.

8:53pm..Jeff: R U drinking?
8:55pm..Reed: have wht she wants. solllid plan. better than hers.
8:56pm..Jeff: leaving now. wait 4 me.
9:02pm..Reed: don't worry botu it.
9:02pm..Jeff: WAIT 4 ME.
9:04pm..Jeff: PICKUP YOU PHONE
9:57pm..Jeff: you should stop for drink @ that bar in terminal with the big olives b4 flight.

My Review
3 Stars!!

This is book 1 in the Chicago Angels Series by G.K.Moore and consists of a cliffhanger which will either make you want to beg the author for the next book or bang your head against a wall. This is G.K.Moore's debut novel and I think she did a good job in reeling the reader in and wanting to read on to see how things will work out.

I love mafia romance so when I was offered an arc of this one I jumped at the chance.I didn't know how it would go and didn't read any reviews before reading it since. There were parts that I enjoyed and parts I didn't which is normal with every book I guess. I really liked the fact that the book starts off with a bang since I love fast paced beginnings, something that draws you in and leaves you in the center of chaos.

We meet Olivia who has ended up in a messy situation and in need of help she turns to Alessandro who she has been trying to stay away from. At the start when they meet there is chemistry but other than that I felt like Alessandro was indifferent towards Olivia.Their relationship isn't clear until a later when there is a flashback which shows how they know each other and what happened in the past that still binds them together.

I think they both make some stupid decisions which in the end leads to a bigger mess that may ruin them forever. This book has dual POVs which was absolutely necessary for this book since they lacked good communication skills.I just wanted to scream and tell them to bloody tell each other everything! Stop avoiding it. But did they listen to me? The answer is no.

Olivia needs to quit running and get everything out into the open. What happened in the past still haunts her. She had a rough childhood and my heart went out to the little Lulu and I loved the young Alessandro. What the hell happened, that's what I want to know.Hated Silvio urgh and I hope Olivia doesn't follow in her mothers footsteps.

'There should have been an explosion, a crash or a piercing scream. How could my heart have been completely destroyed in deathly silence?'

The ending..*Deep breath* NO I am not liking Alessandro right now and he better get his shit together in the next book..or else!

My Review
3 Black Box Stars!!

I have had this arc for a while and finally got round to it. I don't know what it was I thought would happen in this book but its really wasn't anything like i was expecting. I thought it was well written yet at times I felt like its was too slow for me, it dragged at times and I wanted it to pick up speed.I loved how this book was unique and the synopsis really draws you in.

This book alternates between Crush and Mikki's POV so we get to know both the characters as individuals and what is happening in their life.I always love dual POVs since I feel like it makes you feel more connected to both characters and you don't feel as frustrated with their actions because you can kind of see where they are coming from.

I don’t believe in coincidence or fate

But I know one thing for sure
Your face was meant to be
Burned into the deepest reaches
Of my blackest memories.

Mikki's POV was written really well and it was pretty depressing being in her head. She wanted to die, she had finally had enough.Totally felt what she was feeling yet I wanted to reach in and change it all. Scream that she couldn't kill herself, keep fighting! It was like no hope left and then in walks Crush and things start looking up.Pieces start joining together and we find about how they met before and what happened in the past to change both their lives.

I loved Crush! Bless him, he was so patient and loving. He also had a rough past, one that still haunts him but Mikki changed his life a few years back. He just didn't know who she was at that point. But another meeting, different circumstances and fate pushing to make them meet. What will happen? Will it all end in tragedy?

“...not all stories have happy endings; but that doesn't mean they're not worth the read.”

Overall it was okay but I don't think it was a book for me. I didn't really that connected to the characters and wanted more from the ending. This is the first book I have read by Cassia Leo and since lots of her books have been recommended to me I will check them out and see how they go!

My Review

3 Damaged Stars!

This has been on my kindle for ages now and I have just let it be.I think it was a free for a time on amazon and that's when I got it.Recently I decided to clean up my kindle since I just seem to keep adding more books and leaving behind the rest and without giving them a shot. I mainly started to work through my arc list but this was a random one I wanted to get through. Lying there at the bottom, being all neglected! So that's why I started reading it I hadn't really heard much about it so I thought meh why not?

Staring up at Cooper, I held his gaze and forced a smile. “I like you a lot. I don’t think we make any sense, but I wish we did.”

Farah Smith has had to leave her dad and sister behind and attend college which has always been her dream. Her life hasn't been easy not with what happened to her in the past and its not getting easier especially with the fact that she has to be away from her best friend or only friend and sister and start new with a mother who doesn't want her.

Cooper Johansson is a local bad boy that everyone wants or is afraid of.His family is respected and feared in the community. Cooper and Farah meet in class and they are drawn to each other yet Farah wants nothing to do with a scary looking, tattooed bad boy.

“This date. You’re really giving me a chance, right? I need for you to be open to things and not just playing along because I said I would keep chasing. I need a real chance because you’ve got me all messed up inside.”

I really liked Cooper even though he was an arsehole at times and did some stupid things he really did want more from her. Farah had me so annoyed at times like ahhh *Pulling my hair out* So whiny and awkward at times. It's like womaaaan there is a hot man who wants you. Embrace it haha. Then again I understood later on why she did certain things but still it wasn't enough.I wanted her to get some help and sort her past crap out.

There were some funny moments which I loved and this book had alot of potential.I just wanted Farah to be more uhmm...badass? something like that. Also Bailey? I bloody hated her.She isn't cute little sister kinda girl she is a bitch. So self absorbed as was Skye. Not good friends at all and their advice was stupid pft! I didn't really know what to rate this book 2.5 or 3 so because this book did have parts I truly did enjoy I will stick to 3 stars!

My Review

3 Stars!

This is the final installment to the Blackstone Affair series and finally everything is out in the open.If you haven't read the rest of the books in this series there will be spoilers below!

“Brynne was my life. The last piece of my puzzle that had finally completed me. I just need a way to tell her somehow. I wanted her to know how happy I was because I had been blessed with the rare and precious gift of loving her.”

Ahhh I really wanted to love this one but it just didn't do it for me :( I guess its been a while since I read the rest of the series and maybe I expected too much? It was too slow for my liking and it pains me to say this but I was fairly bored.

Ethan and Brynne have come a long way with the things they have faced and the struggles they overcome.now they have are getting married and have a baby on the way what could possibly go wrong? The past comes back to haunt them they have to work together to overcome the struggle. Ethan has to learn to stop always protecting Brynne from his past and let her in.

I really enjoyed the series, I absolutely adore Ethan. Sexy, possessive, funny and all round amazing man what more can you ask for? I loved the parts when Ethan was all excited about the baby aww some really cute parts but other than that and Ethan's amazing self i just wasn't as into it as i was with the rest of the books in the series.

Ethan Frost returns in the breathtaking conclusion to New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tracy Wolff’s seductive novel Ruined—perfect for fans of Release Me and Bared to You.

As Chloe Girard discovers, there’s love . . . and then there’s addiction.

Ethan Frost is everything a woman could want in a man. He’s rich, gorgeous, powerful, one of the most eligible bachelors in the world.

But that’s not why I’m with him.

I love Ethan for all the things no one else gets to see: his innate kindness, his reckless spontaneity, his unwavering determination to use his brilliance for good. I love the way he looks at me, the way he touches me. The way he makes me forget the wreckage of my past and the twisted fear that still lives inside me.

But sometimes it terrifies me how much I crave him, how much I need him just to breathe. I always thought it would be my past that ruined us, but there’s a darkness in Ethan I never dreamed existed. Can we survive as his secrets surface—threatening to unravel us both?

My Review

2.5-3 Stars!!

'Ethan Frost loves me the same way I love him.Wildly,completely,absolutely.'

*Sigh* I really wanted to love this book. I really did. After the cliffhanger from book 1 and i really did enjoy Ruined as a whole I was expecting a lot more from this book.I feel like it's not finished, that there is still more to come.I was hoping to see how the characters coped, more development and to see how it would all work out.

'He tastes like the ocean and feels like it too.Powerful, violent, infinite.I want to immerse myself in him, to drown in him.And I want this kiss-this feeling- to go on forever.'

Everything was going well for Ethan and Chloe and for the first time Chloe felt safe enough to open up about her past.Ethan has always made her feel safe and protected but what happens when the truth shatters her? What happens when the man she thinks can save her is the brother of the man who destroyed her?

A lot of things were left half way. What happened to Brandon, that issue is not really solved and if it is I didn't find closure I needed, I wanted to know exactly what happened to him.I wanted to know that he wouldn't hurt anyone again because of so and so..he being run over by a car..possibly? Anything! I wanted him punished.

'Ethan Frost is my addiction. He's the itch just below my skin. The fire that skates along my every nerve ending. He is the craving I just can't shake.'

Ethan tries to protect the woman he is in love by not telling her what he knows. It's like every time he thinks he is doing something right it ends up being a cause of another fallout. He finds out that you can't protect a person when you hide the truth and take it upon yourself to sort out.I loved Ethan, loved him in book 1 and still love him in book 2! I feel sorry for him its like everything he did seemed to come back to bite him.All he wanted was to protect Chloe and all it did was hurt her.I felt that Chloe was harsh to him, you don't choose your family and even though I understand her situation I wanted to scream at her that its not Ethan's fault! Give the man a break!

It was constant pattern of there being a problem which leads to Chloe running away, Chloe's boring mind and then making up and back to the start. Vicious cycle.I hated being in Chloe's head her inner dialogue was just too slow and boring for me.It was the same thing over and over again I felt so frustrated with her.I think if this was in dual POV it would have balanced it out and maybe I wouldn't have been so annoyed at Chloe.I'd loved to have gotten more of an insight to Ethan's side and how he was coping and so on.

Blog Tour/Excerpt/Review/Giveaway: Gorgeous Rotten Scoundrel By Nina G. Jones

Gorgeous Rotten Scoundrel Blog tour banner.jpg

GRS Cover.png

Synopsis:
He was a pig, a jerk, selfish, callous, crude, tactless, prone to outbursts and gorgeous. The kind of gorgeous where you didn’t even attempt to hide the fact that you were staring. I knew the type: His entire life he has coasted on his good looks, artificial charm, and sex appeal. Everyone wanted to be on him or be him. I had been hurt by jerks like him before. He was like those guys but far worse.

I was the unfortunate sucker to be offered a gig I desperately needed as his live-in chef for a Summer in the Hamptons. But I wasn’t like the other girls, the models and socialites who came through the revolving door of his bedroom. I would bite the bullet, take the gig, deal with his sexist comments, his expectation that I would fawn over him, and have no problem letting the door hit my ass on the way out when I was done.

But then something unexpected happened that changed everything and I realized that there maybe more to him than the labels I had affixed to his character. Maybe. But if he really wanted me, it wasn’t going to be easy, not like everything else in his life. He was going to have to work, I was going to make him miserable. He was going to hate wanting me just as much as I hated myself for wanting him back.

Review

3 Sweet Stars!

This is my third book of Nina.G.Jones that I have read. I really enjoyed her 'Strapped' series which is dark erotica with suspense and much more. This book of hers was a total change, it's a fun, quick, funny and sweet read.

Sadie is a chef, she is sarcastic and guarded. She thinks hot men can't be trusted with your heart. Having her heart broken by a hot player caused these opinions to form.So what will happen when she has to work for hot, player and international supermodel Heath?

Heath is a rich supermodel who pretty much has it all. Well that's what it seems on the outside but there is a lot more to Heath than he lets on.Money can't buy everything and that's how Heath feels. An incident occurs in which Sadie has to help Heath out and this brings them closer together. She starts seeing Heath as more than an arrogant player. But can anything come from their attraction towards each other? Is this something they should take a chance on?

"Yeah, well now I'm back to six-foot-three and I don't know where anything is in that damn kitchen, so I look through all the cupboards and drawers just to find a goddamn spatula. Then I saw your betrayal: hiding cookies from me.It hurt, I must admit."

This story was pretty straight forward and predictable.Heath was funny and cocky and Sadie was sarcastic. At time they both frustrated the hell out of me I just wanted to shake them and scream 'Get your shit together people!' Wow that sounds really weird but hey it's what I would have said. I liked it but wanted something more added to it. If you like hot quick funny reads this is a book for you ;)

Excerpt:

"You're a big boy," I said, lifting his legs up.
"You're an angel," he murmured, woozy from the booze.
I used all of my might to push him in further, and slipped on the rug, falling on his chest. Our faces were within inches of each other, and yes, there was that pause, that moment of: should we or shouldn't we? But unlike before, he didn't jump at me. He respected me now, and it only made me enjoy him more.
"Alright, goodnight."
"Goodnight," he smiled warmly.
I meandered back to my bedroom, still heady from the wine. This quiet evening was the most pleasant one I had in a long time and I felt a surprising sting of sadness going back to my room alone.
I lay in my bed, staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. I missed him. Like Heath, I too didn't want to be alone. I couldn't remember the last time I felt that way. It wasn't just physical, it's that feeling you had as a kid when you met a friend you liked so much that even though you spent all day with them at school, as soon as you got home you would call them up.  Or the way you might stay awake as long as you could at a sleepover because no matter how tired you were, sleep was not nearly as enjoyable as the conversation with your friends. I wasn't ready for our time together that night to end.
The wine in my veins made me shameless enough to follow through.
I tip-toed to his room and slowly opened the door. In my gut, I hoped he might be asleep and I would change my mind.
"Is everything okay?" he asked almost as soon as I stepped foot in the room.
"Yes, I couldn't sleep." What the hell are you doing? Tell him you're here to check in on him as his new nurse—yeah, that's the ticket!
"Oh, me neither. It hard with all this crap on me," he said in an amused whisper. He was as close to a mummy as I had ever seen.
"I don't want to be alone tonight."
"Okay."
