My Review
5 Royal Stars!!

The Wrath and the Dawn is book one in this series, I'm sure sure how many books will be in it or if it will be a duology but I am hoping for more than just the two because I don't think I will ever want it to end. I was swept away with this amazing storyline and I need more, so much more.

“My soul sees its equal in you.”

I randomly came upon this book because someone on Goodreads had liked a 5 star review and I was wanting to find a good book to get into. When I clicked on it and read the synopsis I was like oh this story I have heard of. Someone told me it or read it to me and for the life in me I can not remember who. If it is you, you the person reading this review do let me know! This story always intrigued me since the moment I heard it and so I got this book.

First let me touch on the fact that me and YA have quite a bumpy relationship. I always say I'm not a massive fan because I find that the characters or storyline is just not for me and characters come across immature. BUT then we get the amazing YA books that make you question if that was a YA novel you read because it blew your mind. This was soo one of those extraordinary ones that takes you away to a whole new world and when you close the book you realise how dull reality is compared to this colourful setting of this book.

The writing had a poetic essence to it taking you away into a far away land. The characters were amazing I need to know more, what the hell happened? What will happen next. Tariq annoyed me, just go away! And Jalal intrigued me I want to see him getting maybe a few chapters in the next book or having his own book because I need to know his story and how he reacts to what happens near the end of the book. Khalid, the King is such a tortured soul and he deserves happiness and I'm hoping it all ends well and he gets a happily ever after. I'm hoping Shahrzad is pregnant *fingers crossed*

The release date is too far away!!

My Review

2.5 Stars!

So after finishing a series I was left in a book funk and to try get out of it I picked this book up thinking I needed something sweet and straight forward which yes this kind of was but there were too many points where it didn't work for me. I've had this sitting in my kindle app for ages and after seeing some 5 star reviews maybe I expected too much?

"Everything in my life was insignificant until I met you, and now you are all that matters."

I thought this would be a little more alpha male book with more story I guess. As I was reading I felt like the main characters did have chemistry and that was all good yet it went so quickly the relationship even though they had known each other for a year we didn't get to know much about that year or about Nick as a person. I didn't feel like it had that gradual building up of character or personality that I as a reader fall for. I didn't feel connected to him which was a real shame.

Julianne Becker the heroine did some stupid things that really annoyed me and at one point I was going to stop reading it all together. Her friend? He just pissed me off. That's all I have to say about him to be honest. I felt she was way too obsessed with this boss but hey I guess it can happen *shrugs* I don't think this was a book fr me or it may just have been the mood I was in at the time but don't let me opinions keep you from reading this may be a book you end up enjoying!

My Review

4 Stars!!

The V Girl is Mya Robart's debut novel and I think she did a very good job on it.It is set in post-apocalyptic North America, a time where sexual abuse, violence and death is a norm. The topics and parts of this book had darkness to it yet it didn't overpower the story. Its a dark subject but it didn't make the book a sort of depressing, gloomy book that it could have been. There were a lot of elements to it with some twists I wasn't expecting.

Lila is a character that has to grow up fast and she becomes head of the family. She is the one everyone relies on and looks up to. With a sick brother and a younger sister to protect from anyone who may try to rape her.She is called V girl since she is a virgin and it is something she wants to get rid of. She wants to lose her virginity with her consent because if or when she gets recruited the soldiers will definitely rape her and take it by force.In her haste to get rid of it she becomes desperate. She decides to ask her friend Rey who she has known forever and trusts.Things don't go to plan when Aleksey Fürst enters the scene.

“You usually can’t recall all the people you’ve shared laughs with. But you rarely forget the people you’ve shared your tears with.”

First of all Lila at points really annoyed me with her desperation to get rid of her virginity like I understood why but she made silly rash decisions that left her in awkward situations. They could have all been avoided and she did do some immature things. I know she is young and I guess that's on me since I usually read adult novels due to the maturity factor.I felt like she jumped to conclusions without thinking things through.

Because I loved Aleksey, I'm sorry but Rey had to be on my shit list. I don't think I've ever liked two guys in a book where they both like the heroine. I love one of them and have to hate the other, I just can't help it. I know Rey wasn't a bad guy but no, just no. I stacked everything against him when I fell for Aleksey. This isn't a love triangle but at times felt like it but not to the point where it put me off since I can't stand love triangles.

I would have loved some chapters to be in Aleksey's point of view since he was quite a mysterious character and I wanted to know more about him. I didn't want this book to end nearing the end I felt a little panicky since I felt like there was quite a lot left, that needed to be added yet there were so little pages left. Will we get more? I felt like it was left quite unfinished like there may be more in store.I felt like the deflowering bit was quite stretched out, like I just wanted it done with and to see their relationship slowly building and becoming stronger.

Mya Robarts..Can we have little Aleskey babies? That would be so awesome! I'd love a novella or something showing them both in the future.There were a few characters I wanted t know more about, what happened to them and so on like Rey's brother and Tristan!

Looking forward to more from this author :)

My Review

5 stars!!

I feel like the more poetry I read the more I fall in love with words and how they have a way of bringing so much emotion. A few words can have an impact and make you feel so much. If anyone has any recommendations, comment or message me. I'm all for exploring!

'how is it so easy for you
to be kind to people he asked
milk and honey dripped
from my lips as i answered
cause people have not
been kind to me'

I realised that I have a preference to deep dark poetry. Dark thoughts and experiences. I enjoy reading about people's experiences, it's like all this anger, sadness and pain being scratched onto the pages.Its a part of the author and I can't get enough of that.

'neither of us is happy
but neither of us wants t leave
so we keep breaking one another
and calling it love'

Rupi Kaur just has a way with words, I can't even explain it.She inspires me to write.Even though I am no poet but her poetry makes me want to give it a shot.It's a whole different experience when you read something and you can totally relate and you feel like the words are your words that you never knew how to express.This is one I would definitely want on my shelf because I don't this is the last time I will read it.

'I can't tell if my mother is
terrified or in love with my
father it all looks the same'

I pretty much highlighted the whole book. I just couldn't stop myself!
Just beautiful and I can't wait for more by this author.

your soul stained my shoulders.
my whole life smells like you.
this will take time.
undoing you from my blood.

The mere fact that most of this book is highlighted says everything. I saw a quote on Instagram and say Nayyirah Waheed's name upon it, I'm so thankful I saw it and it led me to discover her words.Simple yet powerful words that left me feeling so much. There is this rumble of restrained anger behind some words where in others it isn't held back. There is hurt pain, accepting, healing and so much more. It was like these words had been beaten down by the world yet stood up straight and finally fighting back when they realised they were more than the boxes the world put them in.

you.
not wanting me.
was
the beginning of me
wanting myself.
thank you
-the hurt

I have always enjoyed poetry, especially brutal poetry, the harsh side of life and when people with rough lives put all their passion, anger, raw energy into words and lay them out for the world. It's really something personal and very brave to allow people to read a part of their soul.I think its time to pick up more poetry book since they seem to leave me so inspired.

One week. No future. No past. No more.
Alexandria Collins has one week to live carefree—no ghosts of her past or pressures of her future haunting her. Reinventing herself as "Charli," she is knocked off her feet by a sexy, mysterious man who brings her pleasure like she never imagined.  With her heart at stake, she forgets that decisions made in the dark of night reappear in the bright light of day.

EXCERPT

I motioned around the patio. "Is this what you do? You save women from the resort leaches and lure them to your lair?"
"My lair? Am I Batman?"
"Are you? I don't know."
He smirked. "If only I could make a living at doing just that, but alas, no. You're my first rescue."
I stopped my reach for a piece of cheese and looked back up at him. "You're first?"
"My first rescue,” he clarified. “Hardly my first."
"Why?"
He lifted his glass toward me in a toast. After I lifted mine, he said, "To you, Charli with an I, and to learning more about you."
After our glasses clinked and we both took a sip, I asked the question that I'd been dying to know ever since our morning encounter. "You seem to have a clear advantage. You know my name, but I've yet to learn yours."
"Do I?"
"Do you what?"
"Do I have an advantage?” He leaned closer. “Do I know your name? You see, I had the resort's reservations scoured. I wanted to send a gift to your room and confirm our dinner, yet Charli was nowhere to be found."
I took a deep breath. "Well, I'm here with my sister. I guess my name isn't on the reservation."
"You're sister?"
"Yes, and you—if I were to have the reservations scoured?"
The sun had now fully set, falling below the water and the darkening sky was beginning to fill with stars, especially over the water.
"Would you believe, Batman?" When I didn't respond, he said, "Bruce Wayne?"
Though I pursed my lips, I felt the twinkle in my eyes.

My Review

4.5 Stars!

So after going through quite a few books I could not connect with I just needed something quite straight forward, something that would grip me from the start and I just wouldn't want to stop reading until it is finished and then I would feel sad that it's over and crave more. This book was all that and more. It's just what I needed at the time and it got me out of my book funk.

T.Saint John has done a great job on her debut novel.This is book one in the Stone Brother Series and I'm intrigued, I wonder how the other books will be like and how the story of the other brothers will unfold.

I read a small excerpt and I needed this book, I'm so glad it didn't disappoint. This book has a bit of everything from action, humour, romance and much more.If you love an alpha male you will love Noah!
This book is written in dual povs which I love since I love getting an insight to both main characters. I enjoy being able to see both characters side and what they are going through instead of it being one sided. I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen with Maddox and Evan as this series continues and also any other books this author writes! Can I have the next book like..now? Pleasseee TSJ? I shall be your best friend forever ;)

Definitely an author I shall be stalking! :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q&A With Maureen
1. What was you fav book from your childhood?
It’s hard to pick just one because I read so much when I was younger, but If I had to choose, it’d have to be The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I read this book in 6th grade, after already having seen and loved the movie, but I enjoyed the book so much more. There are just some feelings and emotions that aren’t portrayed as well on screen, but I was immediately immersed into this book and instantly fell in love with the characters. That’s one thing that even now I look for in books. If I feel a connection with the characters and the story can evoke some emotion within me, then the author is doing their job.
2. Who inspires you?
For me it’s not a “who”, but a “what” that inspires me. Life inspires me. Every day that I’m alive, I’m inspired by the world around me. Whether it’s a personal experience, a book I read, a picture I saw, a person who crossed my path, or a conversation I overheard…everything around me inspires me. I try to write my stories based on real life situations, and what better inspiration is there than the natural occurrences that happen around you?
3. If you could bring to life any one character who would it be and why?
Harry Potter! I mean, come on, who wouldn’t want to run around casting spells with their own personal wizard friend? I know I would!
4. If you could be a man for the day what would you do? Crazy silly answers are welcome ;)
Oh boy! *giggles* I’m sure any woman would want to know what it feel like to have an extra…ahem…appendage. No lie, I would want to test out peeing while standing up. Definitely jerk off a few times. Maybe bang a chick or two…or three. You said only one day, I’ve got to make the most of it!
5.If you could live in a book which book would it be?
Again, definitely Harry Potter! The books portrayed a world like no other, and if I could go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and be friends with all of the characters in the books, I would be in heaven. I’m still patiently waiting for an owl to arrive with my letter!
6. Celebrity crush?
Paul Rudd. The guy is 45 and still so damn sexy! Plus his sense of humor makes him even more attractive. If a guy doesn’t have a good sense of humor, then he doesn’t stand a chance of registering on my radar.
7.What are you currently reading?
I actually just finished Here With Me (The Archer Brothers #1) by Heidi McLaughlin, and holy hell, what a cliffhanger! The book was fantastic and now I’m dying to get my hands on the next one.
8. One thing most people don't know about you?
I’m actually really shy, to the point that I have social anxiety when I’m in unfamiliar places. I attended my first signing as an author this year in Tampa (it was also my first time flying), and to say I was nervous is an understatement. Knowing people were coming there to see me was so surreal, and I wasn’t sure how to handle that. I’m just a regular person like anyone else, and I’ve always hated being the center of attention, but once the signing was under way and they started letting the fans in, I found myself coming out of my shell more. Now that I’ve experienced that, I can’t wait to attend more signings. It was so much fun!
9. Are any characters in your books similar to you as a person? personality, traits so on?
I think the one character I can relate to the most is Liberty from my Second Chances Series. I’m only twenty-seven (I was twenty-five when I started writing her story), and while she was growing as a young woman and trying to find her place in the world, I was as well. I found writing to be very therapeutic, and I think in a way I was pouring a bit of myself into her character. A lot of authors will suggest that you write what you know, and I think that definitely proved to be true while developing Liberty’s character. Not to mention we’ve both grown as the series progressed. I like to think of her as my fictional BFF.
10. Fav book of all time?
Taking Chances by Molly McAdams. Ugh, I’m STILL not over it. That book was one of the worst ugly cries I’ve ever had, and my heart breaks just thinking about it. That’s one story that will stick with me for a long time to come. #TeamChase4Life
11. Fav tv show and/Or movie?
Hmm favorite TV show is without a doubt Friends. Favorite movie…that’s a tough one. I’d have to go with either Anchorman or Stepbrothers. I’m a sucker for anything with Will Ferrell in it, and I love to laugh, so his movies always come to mind first.
12. If you could be any paranormal being for a day which would you choose to be and why?
In all seriousness, I would love to be a ghost. Ha, I’d be the asshole playing tricks on everyone, especially those who treated me poorly while I was still alive. That’s karma for ya!
13.Which book would have loved to have written?
That’s a toss up between Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan and Bright Side by Kim Holden. Both such talented authors and amazing books in their own way. They wrote some of the most unique characters I’ve ever read, Mia’s hero Archer and Kim’s heroine Kate, and I couldn’t help but wish that I had come up with them myself! Sometimes it’s not just the quality of the author’s writing that draws you in, but the creativity behind the story and characters, and these two authors nailed it.
Series Spotlight/Excerpts : Shattered Hearts Series By J.M. Walker
Break Me (The Shattered Hearts Series Book 1)
**** Blurb****
Running is always easier.
Tori McLeod moved to the big city to get away from her mother—and her past. Her new routine is destroyed when she meets a mysterious stranger who won’t take no for an answer. Sebastian intrigues her, but his eyes hold secrets she would rather avoid.
Sebastian Chelios, a hard-as-nails enforcer, is a new-in-town loner. He has to have her. Control her. Possess her. But he can’t—won’t—lose control, even though Tori’s innocence fascinates him. The last thing he’s going to do is love her, even after he gets her in his bed.
Losing control is dangerous, especially when someone from Sebastian’s past covets Tori, putting more than just her heart in danger.
Can Sebastian protect Tori from Jose’s sadistic obsession? If he gets his hands on her, will she make it out in one piece?
***Excerpt***
“Where are you going?” they both asked me.
Turning back to them, I rolled my eyes. “If you must know, I’m going to the washroom. Did you want a play-by- play when I get back?”
Brett turned to Keisha. “I think I like her. She’s feisty.”
She glared at him. Her eyes widened when they flicked back to mine. A grin spread on her face as she looked pastme. Brett muttered something that I didn’t hear as he rose from his seat.
Frowning, I turned on my heel and ran right into a hard body. My hands instinctively landed on the chest, bracing my fall. I gasped and looked up into black eyes.Sebastian.
The familiar smell of cologne and soap invaded my nostrils, and it was just as intoxicating as before. My core clenched, aching for him.
Grabbing my wrists, he rubbed his thumb over my pulse point.
My breath picked up, and my heart thundered against my chest as I watched the small movement. My gaze flashed up to his, and a small smile formed on his lips.
“Hello, Tori.” His deep, silky voice washed over me, caressing my skin as he continued to rub small circles on my wrist.
“Hi,” I said, hardly able to breathe. It had been weeks since I had seen him, and being this close to him made my insides turn to mush.
He let go of my wrists and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
Shivers ran down my spine at the light, feathery touch. My nipples hardened against my bra, turning to sharp peaks, begging to be touched by him.
“Come here often?” His deep voice sent a current of electrifying pleasure through me. This guy was going to do damage to my self-control.
“Does that sort of pickup line work on every girl, or is this your first time testing it out?” I laughed, asking the same question I had asked him the first time we met.
He chuckled. “That depends.”
“On?” I asked, playing along.
“Is it working?” His voice lowered and he leaned down, hot breath grazing my ear.
My heart thumped a mile a minute against my chest; I thought it would explode. A sharp pain pinched my ear, and then I realized he’d bitten me.
Liquid heat seeped between my legs at the unexpected contact.
Oh God. My eyes went wide. Did I say that aloud?
He lifted his head and looked down at me, eyes blazing. Placing his hand on the small of my back, he pulled me against his side. He winked at me. “So is it?”
I frowned, confused. “Is what?”
“Is it working?”
My stomach flip-flopped. “Oh...” Yes, it was very much indeed working, but there was no way that I was telling him that.
A cough sounded from behind us, and I turned around. Keisha had the biggest smile, one that lit up her whole face.
Brett’s face was hard as he glared daggers at Sebastian. He took a couple of steps toward us. “Sebastian Chelios.” His voice was thick with disgust.
***Excerpt***
“It’s been two years, Keisha.” I flopped down on my bed and sighed. “Today is the anniversary of...Sebastian’s...death.”
“Two years...” She gasped. “Oh my...oh, Tori.” She choked on a sob. “I didn’t even realize.”
“I try to forget.” I put the phone on speakerphone and placed it on my dresser. This day always left me feeling numb. Empty.
“I’m so sorry, Tori. Listen, when can I stop by? I’d really like to see you and my man.”I smiled. “How about tomorrow?”
“Sure. Sounds perfect. Mind if I bring the goons with me?”
My heart jumped. “No, not at all.”
“So, I’ll bring beer, food, and the boys. It’ll be fun, okay?” Keisha said, cheerfully, interrupting my thoughts.
I smiled lightly. “I’m looking forward to it.” I was. It’d been way too long since I had seen any of them. Talking on the computer or phone just wasn’t the same. I disconnected the call and scrubbed a hand down my face.Brett, Keisha’s brother, and I had become close over the last couple of years. Even though he had been a dick in the beginning, he’d made up for that. We’d gone out on dates and kissed a couple of times, but nothing serious. I wouldn’t sleep with him.He wasn’t Sebastian. There was no spark. Not the intense burning desire that I had felt for Sebastian the moment I saw him.
Brett was hesitant. He played it safe whereas Sebastian took what he wanted, when he wanted it. I could never say no to Sebastian. Not that I ever would have. He knew that, too.From the first kiss to the first time we had sex, he was controlling, and I loved every minute of it. My body stirred from those heated memories.
So many questions had been left unanswered. Garrith was an FBI agent, and he wouldn’t tell meanything, no matter how I demanded it. Maybe it was to protect me. The not knowing was what killed me. Made me feel lost.I walked to my window, and grabbing the curtains, I paused. It was late. Something was off. Wind rustled through the trees, and the swings on the swing set moved back and forth. Chills ran up my spine, and uneasiness settled in the pit of my belly.
The security lights came on, making me jump. My heart raced and then slowed when I saw a raccoon scurry across my backyard. I laughed to myself and shook my head.
“Get a grip, Tori.” God, I had issues. When would I stop being so scared?
